to avoid talking to people about D or listening to D stories. I have a friend who cares very much about me and the kids and would do anything in the world for us. He lives about 30 minutes from us in a beautiful scenic area along the Ohio River. I enjoy spending time down there, it's sort of like a mini vacation from D. But every time we get in a social situation and he introduces me to someone he just has to mention that I have a son with D. I either end up answering questions or hearing how they know someone with D who...you know how the stories go.
I'm going to have a talk with him about it after this weekend. I'm going down there tomorrow for a social event that he's hosting and really won't have time to bring it up. I'm almost dreading the weekend knowing that I'll be spending time talking about D instead of enjoying the event. :(
I think I would just day -hey, your my best friend and you know I love you - but it drives me and my kid nuts when you mention diabetes. Please stop...
Short, sweet, simple!

....and then scream, right?:D
Or bash him over the head - although sometimes just the threat of a head bashing will work wonders :D

LOL
Trying to come up with a simple line to dodge the questions that follow his announcement.
"Yep, he sure does. The river is awfully high isn't it?"

When the conversaation turns to something I won't want to talk about, I usually throw in the line...
"So: how about them Cubs?"
At least it usually changes to a sports conversation, which isn't quite as annoying...

As Abby once said to Maddy:
"The Whole World Doesn't Need To Know I Have Diabetes!!! So, Keep Quiet!!!"
For a while Maddy's standard introduction was "This is my sister Abby, she has diabetes." Of course, she was only 4 and felt it was very important!

Say: "How 'bout you experience it firsthand?!? I will drop my kid off at 8 tomorrow morning. (s)He will be there for a week, OK?"

Funny you say that, he wants to learn what he can about the care and keeping of CJ so he can take CJ with him on a business trip this summer!:(:) ....... Don't quite know how I feel about that.

It must be the way we handle things in Ca. Though our wording is "Yeah, but we are having a Non D Day".

Go for it. We use it when my son is at a special event. I hate the stares we get when he goes for the ice cream or cake. Anyways, have a good time and remember it is a non d day.
