View Full Version : ? Opsite tape
I have read here about Opsite tape for swimming with the CGM. No one seems to know what I am talking about. They don't carry it at Minimed & my pharmacy is just not sure what I am asking about. Where did you get it & was it covered by insurance? If so, was it under DME or just regular pharmacy?
Thanks for your help!!

DONE! This creates a layer of protection between the skin and the site if the adhesive on the site is causing irritation. This is a bad photo, it looks bumpy and not attached well, believe me it’s attached very well.

Go to www.Amazon.com
Enter "opsite" into the search bar, look for the tape that is 5cm x 10m or 2 in by 10.9 yards.
No insurance coverage for us. I know A+ carries it.

Here's the "duh" question for the day - so it's sticky on both sides? I always thought it was a tape like tegaderm that you put over a site, but it's one that you put between the skin and site?

we use it over the transmitter and sensor, it sticks very well, so good for swimming:cwds:

No, it is only sticky on the side that goes to the skin. It has the stuff you peel away on both sides because it is so thin that it would be impossible to handle without the stiffness of the peel away stuff (no I cannot think of what you would call it :o )
ETA: you can put it under the pump site if you are getting irritation or over the cgms to keep it in place.
You guys are the greatest! The IV300 falls right off when he gets it wet. We haven't had great luck with the Tegaderm, so hopefully we get better results with this! :D

No No No! Never a "duh" question asked here! Some use it when the skin is irritated by the site itself.
The Opsite goes on the skin first, then a skin tac (or something sticky), and the site is put right through the very thin layer of tape.

Tegaderm is only good in the cold weather for us. Opsite is better during the sweaty season!

My son wants to go swimming and is having trouble keeping this IV tape over the sensor. :(
I called our local pharmacy - they said they can order opsite flexigrid? This looks slightly different. I'm going to keep calling around. Any kind of ordering is not going to help us today for swimming.

Does the pharmacy have any tegaderm? We have used it for my son over his sites - not sensors yet - and it has held him very well.

IMO the roll is better where you can cut off the size you want. They do make individual pads, but you have to do a lot of trimming.
An individual pad would work for today. They use them to cover IV's in hospitals (that might help you explain better what your looking for)- it might be called something else or be a different brand, but it would work. For the long run I would buy a roll.

I found a pharmacy that is known for hard to find items which is going to order it for me. Should be in on Monday. I'll look around in our supplies maybe we have some Tegaderm here.
Thank you so much for posting the photo of the box! It was very helpful in describing the product and details to the pharmacist.
I know APlus will send you Opsite and no fee, but we just quit APlus. Buying Opsite locally will be $23-$25 according to the pharmacist for the box shown on the photo.
