Does anyone know of a scale which is like the Salter scale available here in Europe, well, around Germany and the Benelux region, France even?
I saw an ad sometime ago in a catalog and threw the thing away. :o

Oh, and if anyone knows of a Calorie King-type book that would be helpful too. Right now, we use 'Kalorien mundgerecht' Umschau Editions (by Nestlé Ernährungstudio). Anything in French or English would be helpful.

Try http://www.amazon.de .

That's my best idea.

The US salter scales work fine, because they measure in grams-since that's the unit that converts directly in to calories (measuring in ounces isn't as precise, either). My favorite salter scale is this one,

Thank you moco89 for taking the time to look and post the links.:cwds:

I'm still so used to the US way of finding anything you want, that it's frustrating when I can't find them around here. It took me a couple of months just to figure out what the cake-gel was and where I could find it.

Thanks so much.
I'll look for the book. The German book I have is great, except when I don't know what the German name is and DH is not around, it's a bit of a PIA...guess that's what dictionaries are for...:o
We have a simple scale with a zero feature too, but something like the Salter scale, with a list of foods already would be handy.
Hope you like living in France. BTW, welcome!:)

well before you go searching this one is in French.. maybe not that much help 'glucides' (means carbs) is the one you are looking for.. always listed per 100g.. divide by weight in grams as usual. Les Feculants, French word for carbohydrate. You can imagine the fun we had with that one..
Yeah France is fab everyone in the pool just now so happy out burning off lunch! Thanks for the welcome.

French is perfect for me, as I speak it fluently. We use both French and German here (along with Luxembourgish). I'm just used to the French names more. I'll look for it definitely. Thanks again.
BTW, my fave place in France is the Lac de St. Croix region, but it's far to drive. The Alsace region is also beautiful...good food too:D

The US salter scales work fine

Actually, for what it's worth, Salter is not a US company. I believe they are based in the U.K. but sell worldwide. So it should actually be even easier to get a "Salter scale" in Europe than it is in the US. ;-)

That's true that Salter is not a US company. What I meant was the ones available in the US are suitable for imperial measurements (outside US/metric system) versus the American measurements (customary system), since calories correlates better and more directly with weight and volumes in the metric system. I agree that the Salter scale shouldn't be a problem at all to get in Europe. However, this website has more members that are American residents, compared to European residents. Therefore, it can be harder to find a salter scale, due to the lack of European members/advice, compared to American members/advice, given on this board
