. We use diluted Novolog (1:5 with normal saline) in my 3 year old nephew's 512 pump.
It seems that the onset and peak and duration of diluted novolog differs from that of pure novolog.
Where can i make sure?

. We have to bolus 15minutes before eating. It's a pain in the pump. Should it be like this? I was under the impression that we bolus AFTER eating.

How did you learn to dilute Novalog? I do not believe this insulin is supposed to be diluted. Rather, with the pump, you should be able to use undiluted Novalog 100 i.u. at increments of .05 or suspend, or take it off during the night - that's the beauty of the pump, not having to dilute insulin. Also, I always bolus my 4-y/o son immediately after eating-another advantage of the pump. Don't take my word over your doctor's, however - check with him/her. If you're not completely confident in this person, find another endo. I know you can dilute Humalog but didn't know Novalog could/should be diluted.

The Novolog has a slightly different peak time than the Humalog, they're both rapidacting, but they do differ, and people can react in different ways to both insulins. With the pump, you shouldn't have to dilute, that's the beauty of it, but go with your doc says, your nephew could be just really sensitive to the insulin right now, and or still honeymooning. I'd recommend speaking with your doctor, they might want to try Humalog with him, or change how things are done.
