Emma has started to ask for the fruit cups like we give the older kids. On the package, it says 18 carbs in one of the cups, but we always drain the juice. Can I use the measurement of weight from Calorie King for the drained fruit?
For example, the pineapple says 18 carbs on the package, but pineapple rings in CK say 4 for 1.5 ounces. So, will 8 carbs for the 3 ounces of fruit cover it or will she still not be covered enough?

That's a great question! Wish I had an answer, but I'll be interested to hear.:D
Del Monte and I think Wal-mart also have a "No Sugar Added" version of fruit cups that my dd loves. The peaches are only 6 carbs. They do contain Splenda, so not sure what your opinion is there.

I have always wondered this to, we usually only give the sugar free or no sugar added ones, occassionally if out and she has one with sugar/syrup she usually drinks the juice (the best part per her) so i cover for the whole thing.

Yeah, see, mine don't do the juice - we drain it off and its just the fruit.

When Hunter eats these we just go with the carbs on the package and have never had any trouble. Sometimes he drinks the juice, sometimes he doesn't.

Same with us. I've always wondered about that juice carb count. I wonder if the company might have some info (of course, I'm sure it would that an hour to find out). With the no sugar version there isn't that big a difference, but with a regular fruit cup going from 18 to 9 could be a problem.

same here - Ian won't use the juice. When he gets the peaches in light syrup I just use the carbs on the box but never have any trouble with that, so maybe there's enough juice that's sunk into the fruit that the remaining liquid doesn't make much difference?
I think if it is packaged in heavy syrup - there will still be a lot of juice inside it and therefore still be much sweeter than pineapple packed in light syrup - so the syrup definitely comes into play...does that help at all?
I think I would figure out the carbs per ounce and then drain the juice and weigh it - I am pretty sure that the fruit will have the same amount of carbs as the liquid since they are all combined together...
