View Full Version : Saying goodbye

Shannon's Mom

DD's closing ceremonies at school were yesterday. She has been at this small, private school for 5 years and will be attending a new school in the fall. Normally, during the ceremony a classmate says the "goodbye" to the departing student on stage, gives them a rose and says a few words. This year they decided to have a teacher say a few words about each student. The students did not know about this change. The teacher who has been responsible for Shannon's D care (no nurse there) was the one who said goodbye to her. I recorded it and wrote down what she said. I really can't even listen to it or read it as I was so emotional! What's funny is that I am sure most of the people there didn't get most of what she said, but my family did and we were all bawling. It is usually sort of emotional leaving a school your child has been at, but leaving one where someone has been so involved with my child on such a personal level made me a mess!!!! I will miss her! Just wanted to share what she said below:

I am saying goodbye to my “Little Buddy” Shannon.
Shannon has brought excitement to my days here at TCS!
- I have discovered that I can sprint down a hallway in 3.2 seconds with just the mention of “Shannon needs you”.
- It is possible to eat two more bites of something in your lunch that you swear you could never eat.
- All juice boxes don’t taste the same.
- The test kit has to go everywhere that we go.
- Tinkerbell makes us both smile.

Most of all, Shannon has taught me that you need to be strong to live with diabetes.
- Shots do hurt.
- You can make mistakes.
- Hugs mean…I’m sorry !

Now, as Shannon leaves us for Pike Creek Christian after 5 years here at The College School. I will be waiting everyday at noon for Maureen to call me and let me know how my “Little Buddy” is doing.

Good luck Shannon! I love you!
From,
Jamie

I guess I will have many more days like that (I hope!) where I am emotional because someone has shown love and kindness to my DD.

That is sooooo sweet.. I have tears in my eyes. That one teacher did all that for your little one. Don't you wish you could just clone people like that..

That was very lovely. I wonder if Emma's old teacher felt like this when we switched her to a new school a couple months ago.
