I love to read and sometimes forget to make time for myself to read books just for pleasure. (read:non D related) So recently I picked up Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (as in The Da Vinci Code) and although I didn't like it as much as Da Vinci it was a good read if a bit unrealistic. Now I am reading Never Change by Elizabeth Berg. I have read a few others of hers and always enjoy them, quick reading but good. Next up is a book I borrowed from my mom by one of my all time favorite authors Jodi Picoult called Change of Heart.
So what are you reading?...give me some good ideas to keep me going.

We're off to the cottage next week for 3 weeks so I have a stack for reading/re-reading but the ones I am most looking forward to are
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life
Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books
Living the Good Life : How One Family Changed Their World from Their Own Backyard
A thousand splendid suns (looking forward to this one)
I want to find some more fiction too so I am looking forward to people's suggestions.
thanks for starting this thread!

Funny you should ask! I have been on a roll since Sunday. I have read "Sunday at Tiffany's" by James Patterson. Great read, but a little bit strange. I read " The Woman Next Door" by Barbara Delinsky. Couldn't put it down! Today I started and finished "The Infidelity Pact". Hard to keep interest at the start, but then again, I couldn't put it down!
Great thread:)

Juliet Marillier - I love all her books
'Year of Wonder' - Geraldine Brooks (didn't like her 'March' though)
Mary Sheephanks - 'Off Balance' - if you have a sister this is brilliant :D
Rosamunde Pilcher :cwds:

We have a book exchange at the pool so I've been picking through that.
I just finished James Patterson's When the Wind Blows and am in the middle of Anita Shreve's The Last Time They Met.
I noticed yesterday that someone had put in a bunch of Grisham books which will probably occupy me for a little while.

I'm just finishing up re-reading all of Phillipa Gregory's books about the tudor in order; The constant princess, The other boleyn girl, the boleyn Inheritance, and The Virgins Lover. They make more sense in order, I had read them out of order before but I wanted to read them as one complete piece.
before that I read Homefront by John Jakes. It's older.
ugh...when I am not reading for work, school, or d, I am only reading trashy romance novels...I am so embarrassed...

I'm even more embarrassed because I just don't read at all - or when I start I can't finish. In the last maybe 8 years the only non-fiction book I have read is My Sister's Keeper. I was so proud of myself for finishing it. LOL That's a very interesting book by the way!

It was an interesting book. I think it would "feel" different to read it now that Em has D though.

[QUOTE=musicjunkie;184427]I just got done reading Tom Robbins 'Jitterbug Perfume'...it was AWESOME...I love that guy
Love, Love, Love Tom Robbins...I have read all of his books. When I was VERY pregnant with Zeb (days before he was born) Tom Robbins did a book signing about an hour from here. My mom went and had my copy (old and worn) of Another Roadside Attraction (my Fav.) signed. I could read that again...it's been awhile.
I have read a few Anita Shreve...she is a great story teller and I loved The Last Time They Met (did I get that name right?) I really liked The Weight of Water and All He Ever Wanted both by Shreve.
I loved My Sisters Keeper but as I have already said Jodi Picoult is a favorite of mine. I too thought The Kite Runner was amazing.
Marsha not surprised by your choice....sounds like something my DH would like and that I would need to take a class just to understand.
This is good stuff...keep it coming.

Unfortunately, I don't read a lot for myself - I try to stay ahead and read what my 11 year old is reading so she doesn't get too far ahead of her age
Our latest books are Percy Jackson and Titans - The Lightning Thief and all four books that followed!
My daughter is too young for this one but I enjoyed the Twilight Series by Stephanie Myers - there is a movie coming out at the end of this year.

That's what I do too, a book in the house and one in my "Waiting Bag". It drives my dh crazy. Right now, I'm reading "Cheating Destiny' by James Hirsch and "The Blink of an Eye" by Ted Dekker. Ted and his family attended the same church as my family until they moved to TX last year. He's an amazing man, and a very talented author.

I'm reading a great book called "The Speed of Trust" by Stephen Covey. It basically states that as trust goes up, costs go down and speed goes up. When trust is down, speed goes down and costs go up. And the cool thing is that this concept applies to lots of things.
Covey is an amazing man! He writes in plain language and his concepts are easy to understand and life altering! I have mentioned him many times in the thesis that will never finish itself...

I LOVE to read! I usually read 2 novels a week, mystery is my favorite. I read so many that I couldn't even tell you the title of what I'm reading right now.
My top 3 FAVORITE authors are...
Patricia Cornwell (Kay Scarpetta series)
Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch series)
James Patterson (Alex Cross series)
"Tangled Webs" by Anne Bishop. Just finished "Dreams made Flesh" by her...wanted to read more in the Black Jewels series but the only other Anne Bishop book my library carries is "Sebastion" which is next on my list. I also have "PS I Love You" from the library ( based on the movie) and Terri Blackstocks "Emerald Window"....I visit the library at least every other week. I read too fast lol...Am on waiting list for the new Nora Roberts, Danielle Steele and James Patterson.(at the library also) I also recieved a free promo book in the mail yesterday from Carla Neggers called "The Widow" I enter so many book contests though Id hope Id win some.....But in between, at night when the house is quiet & I can concentrate, I need to read more in the Pink Panther book. Apparently Joey's honeymoon stage is ending :(
Thanks for this topic idea. I love to read and actually feel lost if I dont have at least 1 book around. Its how I relax at night. No tv, no comp.........me a book & a hot cup of tea & Im happy. Ahhh, Skinny ***** -- there was a thread on this a while back. Basically it's about losing weight by eating vegan. More the philosophy behind the author's reasons for a vegan lifestyle. They go into why milk/dairy is really bad for you -- we are the only species that drink milk after babies are weaned, they talk about the use of antibiotics/hormones in animals, and they also talk about avoiding refined sugars, chemicals, etc. Very interesting book. The authors were on Ellen the other day, but I missed it.
I don't agree with everything they say, but it definitely is something to keep thinking about.

Very funny, charming novella about Queen Elizabeth II suddenly discovering her inner reader and the havoc her discovery brings to the palace.
Nearly done with , "Lady Macbeth" By Susan Fraser King. Who knew Scotland in the year 1058 could be so interesting?

Observations of a very short man - can't remember the authors name but he also wrote fat fourty and fired which I've not read.
Funny book thou' just reading someone else's take on life. The funny things like Mcdonals toys and my fave chapter about listening to someone before you jump in. His brother phoned to tell him he had rats so author jumped in ans said "Gawd yeah, we've got em too, big ba$tards too" he's australian "runnin' all over the house...." only to discover that his brother had pet ones, in the garden, in a cage. Painful as this is the kinda thing I do!
I joined a book club to get a better range of books to read. I'm just not an oprah book club kinda girl. I want escapeism.

Not so much reading as it is listening, but I am currently about half way through John Lutz's Night Spider. I am a mystery/thriller/espionage/serial killer novel junkie. I am also an audible junkie. I love to read actual books but because of night time testing causing my inability to fall back asleep at night and my irrational anxiety causing my inability to fall asleep to begin with I listen to audiobooks on my iPod. It lulls me to sleep (yes, even though I am reading about serial killers) the way no book can.
I also love these other mystery/thriller type authors and highly recommend them to anyone who digs the genre:
Vince Flynn
Brad Meltzer
Stephen Cannell
David Baldacci
Mike Lawson
Joseph Finder
Tess Gerritsen

I read and loved the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon...nothing but Soctsman. My dad is from Scotland and all my female friends LOVE his accent. I have been lucky enough to travel to Scotland a number of times to see my grandparents and uncles, just such a beautiful place. I would love to bring the kids but flying the 5 of us overseas just isn't in the budget.

I've just realized I haven't read anything non-d since Ian's dx (Oct. '06) :(
I used to read 2 books per month.
Was addicted to Patricia Cornwell (the Kay Scarpetta series too), and Marian Keyes (Sushi for Beginners, etc). They both write such amazing plots, and their stories keep you glued to the book.
I was also a fan of P.D. James (mystery).
That was when I had a life...now it's so overly consumed by d...even the soap-opera is d-related :(
This has got to change!
