Melissa has a hard lump and redness at the site that she took out last night. It went last night and was stinging when she bolused. Now she has a hard pea sized lump under the entrance and there is dime sized redness around it. What do you think? Anyone have a picture of a site infection they can share?

I should add it is very tender to the touch. Even if you touch the skin lightly.

Take her to the doc - sounds like she needs antibiotics - if it is tender and hot to the touch, it can easily turn into staff, plus they will test for MRSA just to be safe. We had one - there was nothing she did wrong -it just happened that way.

Bella had this with a set that was still in - and so I did a set change and took the infected site out... her DR said to go to the ER right away.... (not to be gross - and I hope this isn't TMI, but... it had white puss coming out- ew I know - but it's important...)

I would definately call your DR first thing tomorrow... They also suggested a warm compress, too...

Good luck!

Jacob has had one but I do not have pictures - sorry. I took him in and was given a prescription antibotic to put on the area somewhere around two or maybe more times a day.

Have her take a nice warm bath. I think I remember a baking soda bath being recommended (also good for ant bites). In fact, it is now in our site change routine to have him take off the old site, sit in the bath for about 30 mintues before a site change (regular or bubble, not baking soda for normal times), and then do the site. He is 7 so bath time is still fun. But that is all extra, I understand that her site was a problem even before it was removed.

But I agree with what has been said. Go ahead and take her in to her regular pediatrician tomorrow.

After posting I saw the mention of warm compresses. I agree. You can only have her sit in a bath for so long. Warm compresses are great when not in the bath.

Thanks. I gave her pediatricians office a call this afternoon just to give them a heads up that, if things continued to get worse, that we would need to be squeezed in tomorrow.
