We just had our endo appt. two weeks ago. Stephanie's A1C was 6.5 !!!!! We're still honeymooning. Anyway . . . we asked about the new Accu Chek Compact meter/monitor. I don't know if ya'll have seen it. We left the office with it. SO FAR, we LOVE it. You can almost do everything ONE-HANDED. The "pricker" stick is attached to the side of the meter (is removable); the test strips are enclosed in a drum that automatically ejects them at the touch of a button (NO handling at all); the screen is black with orange, easy-to-read numbers; even able to set reminder alarms on the meter.
I may be way too new to praise it, but SO FAR this thing is pretty cool. And, YES, our insurance covers the test strips!!! Stephanie acted as though she'd been given an MP3 player or awesome cell phone . . . she couldn't wait to show it to her friends at school. WOW! Anyway, I wanted to share as you may want to share your experience with the Accu Chek Compact Plus or ask your endo if you're curious. The drums do only contain 17 test strips (by the way, the number of remaining test strips shows in a small window as on an older style camera), but I just go through the routine of making sure there is always an extra drum in her pouch just as I check her supply of pen needles and alcohol swabs.
