I am really excited because I went to work this afternoon at the Elementary School for a summer tutor job while my kids were babysat by a teenage sitter. Everything went great, and both boys didn't want her to leave. I trained her last week, and she came to our house today with all of my diabetic training supplies and contact sheets in her bag - laminated, plus activities to do with the kids! They did origami and read books, played dinosaurs, etc. (no TV). She is babysitting again next week for longer periods of time, but all her hours are in the afternoon after lunch and before dinner, so no shots. I gave her a nice extra tip today.
I also trained my dad last week so he could watch the boys, so I now have 3 people besides my husband who can potentially watch my kids. My dad still needs work - Connor was in the hot tub and low (67 - not too bad) when I picked him up . We used that as a learning experience. But, my dad is starting to understand that he really does need to learn how to take diabetes seriously and give preventative snacks & look for low blood sugar symptoms.
