Hi all, I am brand new to this board, but it looks full of great information and insight !

I have a strange question....my son is 8 and diagnosed 3 years ago. As of late, I have noticed that he has a strong persperation odor. I find it very odd that a child of this age should have such a problem. My older son is 12, very active in sports and we have NEVER encountered this with him.

Could it have something to do with Diabetes ? Have any of you noticed this in any of your children ?

Thanks for any thoughts you can offer !
Allisa

Hi Allisa,

I doubt it's related to diabetes. I've raised three boys (my youngest, 13, was diagnosed in September) and it seems like some boys go through a year or two of terrible BO and others don't. With my son it hit later -- grade 8 -- but I remember one of my kids' friends who at 8 and 9 used to get really funky when he got excited playing video games. It does seem to be a pre-puberty thing and I think it is hitting some kids earlier. Has your son been shooting up in height?

Anyhow, I have never noticed any body odour with my first son, my middle son had a year when it was really overwhelming and he seemed completely oblivious to it (but never since), and my youngest just got a little tinge at the normal age, started using deoderant, and that was that.

As with everything else, it wouldn't hurt to mention it to your doc since eight is pretty young, but I have seen it before!
