Well, we had our yard sale yesterday for our JDRF Walk. We did very well and I'm happy to get the junk, er I mean stuff, out of my house! :D

My pet peeve is with some of these "yard sale people" that show up and want everything for NOTHING. I'm all for haggling with someone, but these people are just plain rude and nasty! We had huge signs up saying that all proceeds were going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, but either they didn't read it, or just didn't care. They wanted those pair of Lands End shorts (with the $24.99 tags still on them, mind you) for 50 cents, even though they were priced at a whopping $2.00! This one particular person was so rude that I told her to go online and buy the shorts for 50 cents! Yeah, I know, not the greatest customer service - but give me a break!!!!

I'm happy it's over with and we raised a ton of money! I just think in the future we'll have a car wash or something! :D

Sorry you had some people wanting something for nothing. I LOVE yard sales and very rarely haggle (only with bigger items or if I'm buying a lot of stuff). If you just say, "no, sorry, that's the price listed" most of the time they get it and walk away, or buy it anyway, at the price you said! :p

That's great that you did a sale, though. Great idea! :)

I totally have been there, done that. I found some of teh regular yard sale people (and you could tell who they were) just totally rude beyond believe not to mention that they showed up at 7:30 in the morning when my signs said 8:30.

I am a regular garage sale person and I have never tried to bargain. I found it interesting when we did have a yard sale last year how many bargained. I found some of them rude too.

Christina...You just reminded me of my sister so much who recently had a yard sale!! She was complaining how people do exactly what happened to you and she was so mad too!! People are amazing!! Especially since it was going to a great cause..all that woman was thinking about was saving a lowsy $1.50 wow....Dont let it get to you, people do that all the time from what I hear from people who have yard sales.. Great job by the way :)

Christina,

I was wonderong where my yard sale lowballer ended up! She used to insist I take a dime for a quarter item and I would vehemently refuse!

These days I just Craigslist everything.

Yeah, I'm done with hosting garage sales for similar reasons! I sell big stuff on Craigslist and donate the small stuff. I love attending yard sales, though! I'm not a lowballer, though.

It can be fun to dicker, but there's certainly no need to be rude. I usually ask if seller would take less than listed price(i usually make some sort of offer), either they happily talk & bargain or politely say, sorry, price listed. If I want it, I'll buy it anyway. Figure if I really want something, I should be willing to pay the full price, but it doesn't hurt to ask if someone'll take less. Personally, 2$ shorts woulda jumped into my arms and never looked back.

Sorry to hear it was so stressful but glad you raised a little for JDRF. Look forward to seeing it on your walk page!! :)

I had someone a couple of years ago that wanted about 25 toddler outfits for $20. I had them listed for $3 each!

Next time put up a sign that says "free is dead" :D j/k

I haven't had a garage sale in YEARS and I won't either, when sat down to figure out how much I made per hour in preparation for, running, cleaning up from, the garage sale it was not worth it!

LOL! That reminds me of when we had a yard sale when our oldest was a little over 2 years old - I sold all of his wonderful Gymboree outfits (gosh, I MISS that store!) that were hardly worn, plus all of his baby stuff, including my Peg Perego stroller! We weren't having any more kids, so get rid of it, right? A couple of months later we find out that I'm preggo again! Go figure!

Isn't that always the way. I'd given away all our baby stuff and then found out I was pregnant. Fortunately, I was able to get it all back as the person I'd given the stuff to was done with it.

We just had a sale too - my MIL helped me & she would really put on the guilt trip when people tried to haggle too much. The stuff was already DIRT cheap, even for garage sale standards, but many people don't care. We stayed open an hour past our advertised time & we were clearly packing up, but people still wanted to shop. One group even started opening up closed boxes & pulling stuff out until my mom yelled at them! We raised a lot of money, but glad it is over!!

I get aggravated about the same thing. When I go to someone elses sale I dont usually haggle. Im happy to oblige their price if I really want it or I dont buy. My last sale people stole from me. Jerks.
