Kaylee's Mommy

I was asked, by her CDE, to write a letter letting the board know how important the Diabetes education services ,that her CDE provides, are. She said I didn't have to do it, and if I felt that she didn't do a good job, to write it in the letter, so changes could be made.. I have nothing but good things to write about her.. They need it for the ADA accreditation. I was happy to do it.. I could have written more.. but didn't want to write a book.. but I think I got my point across that I'm happy with the services:)
The Diabetes Educational services provided by CHAD in Manchester are invaluable to my Family. My daughter Kaylee was diagnosed on January 31, 2006. Since day one Laurie has been an excellent resource for our entire family. I still remember the first day like it was yesterday, sitting in her office, until 5:30 at night, learning about the meter, the lancet device, how to give insulin, and how to give glucagon injection. Over the next few weeks we were in and out of Laurie’s office learning how to do carb counts, learning how lantus and novoLog worked, when things needed to be adjusted and learning about diabetes in general. Before that first visit, I knew nothing. I knew there were two types, but beyond that, I didn’t know what I was doing. Laurie assured my husband and me that everything would be fine, that we would learn all we needed to learn. That Kaylee would be fine, she would be happy and healthy, and would adjust quickly. Kaylee absolutely adores Laurie, every time we go to the CHAD Kaylee looks for her, and is disappointed if Laurie is busy. I think one of the biggest things is that Laurie can relate to everything that Kaylee is going through. Not only does Laurie help with Diabetes education and all the technical stuff, she helps with the emotional side too. Kids with diabetes deal with a lot, more than anyone that doesn’t live this disease would even begin to think about, and because Laurie can relate I think there is a special connection there.
After almost 2 ½ years into this disease I am pretty confident in the changes and decision I make in Kaylee’s regimen. And I owe that all to Laurie. But there are times, and there will always be times, that I need help with a decision and all I have to do is put a call into Laurie knowing that she will either assure me that I’m doing the right thing, or she’ll point me in another direction, something that I hadn’t even thought about, either way, the issue at hand gets fixed. Diabetes self management is so important, without the important services that Laurie provides this can not be achieved.
The services through Diabetes Education that Laurie provides are a must have. I don’t know where I’d be without Laurie and diabetes education through CHAD. I trust Laurie with my daughter’s life, literally.
