Saturday is Cade's first football game of the season and im worried about his id bracelet breaking if he gets tackled. Should I just cover it with something? What should I cover it with?

My son plays basketball, and he always covers it with a sweatband.

I agree with the athletic tape suggestions. If it's too sticky and a paid to take off, then they make stuff called 'underwrap' or something like that. You can put that under the tape.

I would be less worried about the bracelet breaking than someone breaking a bone on it (by getting a finger caught on it). I just read an email about a child who dislocated her wrist when a hospital bracelet got caught up in a coat. Now, that sounds like a freak accident but that type of thing seems much more likely in a sports situation.

Will you be at the game? If so, I would take it off.

When my parents took the whole family to Disneyworld last year, my brother and sister-in-law would write their cell phone numbers on their children's arms every day using a Sharpie marker. It wouldn't come off, and couldn't get lost. I suppose you could mark on a medic alert on your son's wrist for games. (But the athletic tape sounds like a better idea.)

I would tape it.

I would'nt want to get in the habit of taking it off.

For the last two football seasons Tyler has kept his on with no problems,(he plays quarterback so he gets tackled plenty, defense isn't always great;)) BUT after reading the posts in a previous thread about players getting harmed by bracelets worn by others, this year we will be taping it!

Good luck to Cade - hope he has a great game and lots of fun!

My son was diagnosed in eighth grade and will be a senior in the Fall. He plays Varsity football and basketball and does not wear a medical ID during the games or during practice. We are always at every game and at practice his teammmates and coaches are aware of his condition and his needs. We chose to inform people and be at every game rather than risk the delays or injuries that could come from issues with a medical ID. Just how we have handled it and it has worked out well.
