Whew! The first year is over...I can't believe it! It is so hard to imagine where I was emotionally at the beginning of freshman year and where I/we are now. My son has come home, more confident, thinking about the future, testing and bolusing with regularity and a bit more mature. wow. I still worry, but not as much as I use to, I thank God that he came home safe, and feel good that he now pretty much owns his D- care.

Thanks to all of you who have supported me along the way. I can honestly say that those first few weeks/months were much more bearable with you as my cheering section. I found this forum just as I was at the lowest of lows with our boy off to college and you guys gave me so much during that time.
Thank you.

Our kids do grow up, they do learn independence, they do make mistakes and then learn from them, they are charming and wonderful and bring such joy to us.

He did it!:D:D

Awww Margaret O,

Your post brought tears to my eyes... Our path may be difficult, but rewarding as we look back on it. You've done so well and so has your son. You should be proud! How wonderful Jeff has provided a place where we can lean on one another. We need each other so!

Hugs from Ohio --- :cwds::cwds:
Enjoy the summer!!!!!

I was diagnosed early in college, and it was weird and rewarding to see the progression of my ability to manage life with diabetes coincide with the progression of my college career.

And now I'm done with college, and perfectly capable of handling diabetes.

well, i know where i was emotionally at the beginning of his freshman year:eek: (it wasn't real pretty) so i totally related to your 'letting go' process margaret. congrats on a year well done to both of you.

this college stuff is moving fast --- he's going to be a junior next year. continued success, good health and God's blessings to all of our high school and college kids as they learn and conquer independent living with diabetes.

I just graduated last semester...and college is a very tough experience (probably one of the toughest in life) to handle diabetes. Glad everything worked out over the last year!

Great to hear Margaret. What an accomplishment.
I know the feeling Stacey. My son also has 2 years to go until college. He said to me a couple of weeks ago "You're not going to limit where I can go for college are you?". I said no but the the words kind of got caught in my throat. At this point it is hard to picture him managing it all by himself. I try not to think about it but in the fall the search will begin and I truly hope he at least stays on the east coast. I will rest a little better if I know I can shuttle supplies to him if/when he runs out!
