I'm Becky. We've lived in the DC suburbs since graduating from college (1980). I've been a SAHM since just before Jenn was born but I've done a little part-time retail since then and I used to host chats on AOL. I was also a Girl Scout leader for 13 years, sit on the neighborhood pool board, have held every PTA office known to man, tutor 6th graders in language arts, volunteer in the high school career center, managed a soccer team and used to chair the metro DC celiac support group. I've broken my left little toe countless times, dislocated 1 shoulder and broken the other. I once fell while getting the mail and required 6 stitches in my scalp. Klutz much?
DH is Kevin. We've been married 27.5 years. He's an IT geek. He also manages the 21st or 22nd largest genealogical database on the internet. Yeah.
Jennifer is 19, almost a college junior, dx with celiac over 16 years ago. She plays on her college soccer team and was all conference and all state last season. She wants to be a teacher and a coach (soccer and/or field hockey) and hopes to enter a 5-year program for her teaching certification and masters. She is currently a history major, having learned nothing from her mother's poor choices.
Tom is 15, a high school freshman, dx with T1D a little over 2 years ago. He's a swimmer and a skateboarder. He will have his first full time job as a lifeguard this summer. Since his diagnosis he's grown about 8 inches, gained over 50 pounds, participated in a record-breaking swim relay, and earned a varsity letter.
I love to sleep, read, and take pictures of the wild birds and plants in my yard. I am a hostaholic and proud of it. I am VERY fond of good beer and I hate curry. My favorite book (and movie) is To Kill a Mockingbird, my favorite musical is Camelot, and I have had dogs named after characters in both. I love all dogs whether they love me or not (most do). I despise adult cats because they make me sneeze but I love kittens. I don't love rodents, reptiles, insects other than praying mantises, or spiders. Oh, forgot...my favorite current TV show is Grey's Anatomy; I watch re-runs on Lifetime (Will & Grace mostly); and I adore HGTV and the Food Network. I also favor CBS daytime soaps.
I was a cheerleader in college for a week.
Before I take my dirt nap, I hope to have a house on a very warm saltwater beach, full of dogs, and read the announcement of a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Were any of those things (save the dirt nap) to happen sooner than later, I could deal with it.
I am also a tiny bit addicted to CWD.
