Howdy,

I coach a 12U select Fastpitch softball team. My daughter is a pitcher on that team and I just have to tell ya, she was ON!

<OK, Daddy is bragging now>

I post this so the other T1 athletes or recently diagnosed see that T1, properly managed, changes NOTHING about your child's athletic performance. She pitched 4 strong innings not giving up a run.

Here's the highlight reel: http://federalwayslam.com/videos/08fp-wildcats.wmv

She's the 2nd pitcher in the game -- Maddie "THE ROCKET". Yeah, I know, the rocket just isn't a good nickname anymore with the Roger Clemens steroids thing, but she isn't giving the name up!

On a side note, this team had girls 4 and 5 years older than ours... as we play in a combined 12U/14U league... :)

Good job Maddie. I would also not only point out that they can still perform as well after diagnosis--our son Carter (diagnosed 2/08) has pitched (Bronco Mustang) better than ever. And, he says he can see the ball better since the high blood sugar is not affecting his vision. Who knew? We had no idea how much strength he had lost, before he was diagnosed, until we saw him play on insulin!

Wow that's awesome - tell her great job!!:) We also had a game tonight & we had a triple play that was awesome. The second baseman caught a pop fly & threw it to Sierra at 1st for out 2, then Sierra saw the runner at second had gone too. Nobody was covering 2nd so she ran from 1st & got the third out! It was fun to watch. Like you said they're still the same kids and can do ANYTHING anyone else can.
