Is there a magical age when a teenage boy gets to the point where appearance becomes important? The reason I am asking is that every morning I have Kelton take a shower and every morning there is a battle of the wits to get him to comply  He doesn't see why he should have a shower or much less brush his teeth or comb his hair
If the decision were up to him he would shower once a week and wear the same clothes everyday
I have managed to make it so there is not a battle in the mornings..I just tell him if he wants to eat then he needs to be clean :D This has been known to backfire.
I am aware that once appearance becomes important to him that he may spend a lot of time in the bathroom, this is fine because we have two bathrooms and we won't have to beat on the door for him to come out

Hmmmm..Interesting..Across the street the neighbors have a nice 16 year old girl who has come over to help me out in the afternoons..Kelton ignored her
Kelton is a late bloomer when it comes to showing a real interest in girls, right now his female friends are just buddies.

Anthony is going to be 15 in June and is really into how he looks. Hygiene has always been big on his list. He has always had to take a shower every single day, can not have dirt on his hands. He is almost OCD when it comes to hygiene. I wish he was like that about neatness. LOL.
He just started liking a girl for the first time this year but last year was when he was more concerned about his looks. Now it is worse. Everything has to be ironed he is very carefully spiking his hair, instead of just running his hands through his hair with gel. He always asks if something matches and is really into wearing button up shirts.
Oh and let's not forget the cologne.

Oh wow...So, this is what I can look forward to when Kelton becomes interested in girls..I wonder when this change will happen..My luck I have just jinxed myself and Kelton will want to take a shower and use cologne..It would be interesting to see him strut around girls like a rooster :D
But for now he is more interested in digging up rocks and washing them in my washing machine..He loves to get his hands dirty

Tristin in turning 13 in three weeks. He could careless about his appearance other than his hair. Its LONG and wavy, dark and very thick (why do guys always get great hair?) Don't cut his hair...but forget brushing his teeth and washing his face. He knows to shower daily and does this with reluctance. He could walk down the stairs in miss matched socks with shorts on and a nasty old t shirt...and careless.
We are working on it!

I would say somewhere around 14+ my Scott slowly began to shower without me dragging him to the bathroom.
Around 15 he started his own regimen of teeth brushing and basic personal hygiene.
Now at 16, he notices girls but has limited interest (but that's fine with me!).
Still likes his Airsoft guns and such.

Funny you should mention Airsoft guns, both of my boys play with their Airsoft guns on the weekends, as well as digging up rocks and shoving lizards in my face, and chasing me through the house with spiders

with my older boys it hit when they liked a girl..if there was no special girl interest they went back to smelling...lol like right now I have a 17 year old who lives in the shower and I wish my 14 year old would find a girl he is interested in..in other words he needs to hit the shower more often:p

This started with CJ at about 13. Two showers a day and a clean towel each time. We have 2.5 bathrooms, he has his own right next to his bedroom. Whose does he use? Mine. Whose toilet seat does he pee on? Mine. Whatever he wore to bed was clean when he put it on, clean when he took it off, and has to be washed. Then there's the cologne and hair gel. But his room looks like a tornado hit-clothes everywhere, wet towels dropped on the floor, baseballs, footballs, junk that can't be thrown out for whatever reason. But he is good about dishes being returned to the kitchen. Just gotta break those other habits. Oh, and he doesn't dry off either. straight out of the shower, steps on bath mat, and still manages to get water all over the floor, wraps up in a towel and heads to his room still not drying off and gets dressed. Boys.

Hey, are you sure he is not one of my sons:D? You just described my house. I have threatened to put a paddle lock on my bathroom to keep them out...I joke and say that pee makes your behind bigger. As for the shower, yes they too use a clean towel every time and throw it on their bedroom floors. They do not dry off and come walking right through the house, never check if we have company or not. I will laugh the day the towel falls when one of my GF's are over:eek:. I guess at least they are clean, my #2 son asked me for my deodorant the other day, he ran out (DH doesn't wear it, he says he does not sweat and he never smells funny...been married for 20 years.) So he went to school smelling like a "fresh shower" under a half bottle of Axe cologne. Yes, it was the girl thing...it helped riding home from many sport events with a bunch of boys and girls...the boys always showered after the games.
Oh had to laugh, lil'Man was sitting next to me while I typed and saw your picture...He wanted to know if the "monkey" had diabetes;).

That's too funny, the monkey! I just can't get any of CJ's pictures to load.
But the pee thing, you would think after the thousands of times I've yelled at him and made him clean it up he'd learn. I wouldn't even care if he left it up!!

OK..It has started...We are at our other house for the weekend, a new family has moved in a few houses down, they have 3 kids, two boys 13, 14 and a 16 year old girl..Now both boys have decided to fight over who gets to have a shower first :D
One just yelled for the other to find their deodorant and to see if they can 'borrow' Dad's cologne..

This is my almost 11 year old DS exactly. The hair has to be perfect but if not reminded he would go 2 weeks without a shower!!!!
