View Full Version : Must be becoming second nature

I was seeing high numbers for a week with Deacon's breakfast, lunch and dinner. So without thinking too much about it I started a new I:C ratio and I upped his nightly Lantus back to 1 unit from .75. I guess it is becoming second nature because of how little thought I put into it. The changes I made are working out too.
Has anyone noticed that making the changes and analyzing becomes second nature?

absolutely. After a while you just sort of know what to do. It just becomes part of life. this is the dialog in my head "I think we need bread and juice and the car needs gas and Sarah needs to get to voice, Ian to baseball, and I need to change Ian's breakfast ratio" Just one more task to get through in the course of a day.
I think it's good.

Yeah it has become a lot easier. Sometimes if Christian is at a certain # and I will say eat 2 tabs or drink 1/4 cup of milk and it will take you to this # by the time insulin wears off. And you know what...he is that # within a couple of points. I sit there and am so proud of what he and I have both learned in the last 15 months. Also everytime I make a change or I do something like that I explain to him why. So now he is pretty good at knowing what and why to do certain things. :D

I am not very good about changing ratios or dosages by myself. I don't have the confidence yet that I won't mess something up. I call the endo still when I have questions. I'm good at eyeballing carbs though and handling exercise and special parties now. Every time I think I know what I'm doing, something changes (Connor is sick, growth spurt, etc.)and I am back to second-guessing my abilities.
