View Full Version : AI: Simon's face watching Fantasia perform

Did anyone see Simon's face when Fantasia performed on the results show tonight? It was hilarious. I don't know what happened to Fantasia, but she was horrible beyond words (sorry Fantasia fans), she was shreiking, had bright red Bozo colored hair, a horrid jumpsuit outfit, and something like "Jaws braces" on her teeth.
Then the camera cut to Simon during her performance. . . the look was priceless:eek: it was as if he witnessed the worst thing he ever saw in his life. Then after she was done, they showed Simon look over to Randy with a "WTH was THAT??" look on his face.
I think that had to be the single greatest moment on AI this season. Hahahahaha:p
Here's the whole performance, and for those of you that don't watch American Idol, no this is not a joke, this person actually WON AI the third season. Simon's look is at 2:57.

I hit instant replay about 5 times. I had to holler at hubby to come and watch Simons face. I was hoping they would have let Simon say ANYTHING after her performance (If thats what you want to call it)
The look on Simons face was PRICELESS!!!!! A WTH was that moment!

I like her since she was in The Color Purple with Jenny - lol or the other way around. She was outstanding good as Celie, I saw her many times and she made me cry and believe her performance every time. And she was very nice with Jenny.:D
However the performance on AI I did not like at all and I totally agree with you her hair and her screeming:eek:

I don't know, I liked it. I've always liked her. She is certainly not boring and she is totally an entertainer. She has her own way of being her - and she's original (do I sound like Paula??? lol) A few years back she played herself in a tv movie. The movie was a bit cheesy but she was INCREDIBLE and even though she was playing herself she was very believable, which sounds silly, but I have to imagine that trying to act out your own life is hard. So I was never surprised that she went on to TCP.
Simon's look was hysterical though.

That's why I can't figure this one out. I'm not doubting she's very talented, and I'm a HUGE fan of the move "The Color Purple" (saw it about 8 billion times) and I'm sure the Broadway musical was excellent (wish I saw it). So what happened here, it was a train wreck??

People have different music preferences - I don't like heavy metal. It's all a matter of taste in my opinion- definitely wasn't my style, but I'm sure there were people who liked it. Simon was so rude again - he's a professional and should show respect!

I have never watched this show, but isn't making fun of awful performers the entire point of it? Why would the ads show that awful Asian guy over and over -- oh, and cut to shot of Simon with prissy, horrified look. They know what sells.
Yeah, I'm just looking at the car accident to see how many police officers are there. No.... you want to see BLOOD.

If Fantasia had gone into her audition with that getup and that performance, it probably would have gone down in the "worst of AI hall of fame" with Benjamin Hung and others. Granted, she is full of energy, and she's a confident performer, but what happened here??
I still cannot believe she beat out Jennifer Hudson (now Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson who I think can outsing Fantasia any day of the week) and the spectacular LaToya London, who I practically vowed I would never watch Idol again because she was voted off before Jasmine Trias (look at me, I'm still watching??).

Thats hard work......She had a off night, but at least she is staying true to herself. She felt she needed braces...good for her. I think she has a real talent and love the fact that she is not letting the music business change her style or who she is...

Yes, I so agree with you I loved Jennifer Hudson and was so upset when she was voted off and I found that Fantasia's attitude was annoying on AI, but then when she sang Summertime, which is one of my all time favorite songs:D and she sang it so wonderful and quiet, a way more composed performance and with more depth, that's when I was hoping she would win.
I think when she played Celie, if she showed up:eek:, she was digging deep into her soul. Yesterday's performance was more her immature and young side, on which she wanted to jump on the very popular dance/hip hop wagon.
LaToya is also doing TCP tour right now, she is playing Nettie.
Don't you all think Simon was way nicer this season?? Maybe that's why the viewer ship is down.

Did you see Leona Lewis' (X-Factor winner) version of Summertime. I liked it much better than Fantasia's. Look it up on Youtube. Now that girl can SING!! Fantasia's voice is too nasal for my taste, I don't like the tone of it. I think she's more popular for her stage persona and the personality she injects into her performances than her actual singing voice.
LaToya had a very pure spectral voice, but my all time favorite singer is and forever will be Whitney Houston. At her peak, I don't think any pop star now or back then, could touch her talent. Now that lady made the National Anthem a hit!! Who could do that?? I can't wait for her comeback. I even remember the first time I heard her on the radio, I was thinking "who is THAAAT?!!"
I apologize in advance for my extremely biased opinions.:o
I think ratings are down because the show has gotten too predictable, and the last couple years have been dismal. The only thing keeping it alive in my opinion IS Simon. I probably wouldn't watch if it weren't for him.

I always think this - the show isn't called "who's the best singer in america" so for me, how they actually sing is of very little importance. It's american idol. Who will be a star. Who will sell records. Which is why Fantasia is where she is and Jennifer Hudson is where she is. Different places but I think the right person won. Who's the better singer? Hudson by far. But that's now what the show is about. IMO.
Which is why I was always so po'd that Carrie underwood won - sure she sang well and she's done very well, but BORING is her middle name. I would never pay money to see her perform. On the other hand, Daughtry yes, Fantasia yes, and a few others. But none of them were the best singers.

Yes but Carrie Underwood has sold a billion more records than Fantasia. You may not like her, but she panned out to be a huge recording star, which is what Idol is about, as you mentioned. :)
I also think Jennifer Hudson almost won that year. There was one point in season three were Hudson and Fantasia were the bottom 2, and Fantasia barely won (I heard it was a very close vote). The night before, during the performances, a terrible storm hit our area (Chicagoland), and many voters from Chicago (Jennifer Hudson's home town) could not vote. Perhaps Fantasia owes her success to the weather. :p

I don't think the winner is about who will sell records. Where's Taylor Hick's and his billions? But, it's also not about who is the best singer. I find it all alittle too frustrating - including all 3 judges - maybe they need to switch up the judges for the new seasons for some freshness.

I can live without Randy and Paula, but please please don't take away Simon!!! If you watch the X-Factor, Sharon Osbourne is a judge. She actually gives very good constructive criticism unlike wishy washy ditzy Paula (sorry Paula fans).

I have to check out Leona Lewis's version, but since Jenny has it in her repetoire, I got a little tired of the song, I heard it too many times:p But I think Leona Lewis is great.
As for Whitney Houston, I loved her records and was a huge fan, however I saw her once live, it was one of the most boring concerts ever! The money I spent was a total waste!

Simon said Taylor Hicks won AI only because he had gray hair.
Does everyone notice the beginning of AI, the intro has only pictures of the two most successful AI'ers (Kelly and Carrie) and last year's winner, Jordin. I think Jordin is a very talented girl, and I love her song with Chris Brown, "No Air." Her two songs "No Air" and "Tattoo" were very successful.
I think Taylor has already been dropped from his label.

What a great thread - sorry I'm so late to the "party"! We were graced with Fantasia's presence here in Winchester a few weeks ago for the Apple Blossom Festival that we have every year. She was the Grand Marshal. Yup, that's where her career has gone -- to doing appearances in parades in Virginia! Last year's Grand Marshal was Wayne Newton. I think you get the picture!
I personally have never been a fan of Fantasia. I liked her slow ballads, but when she starts with the screaming (and the other night wasn't the first for that) I just want to cringe!
Simon is THE BEST in my book! He tells it like it is and I have to say I agree with him almost all of the time!
I personally think, with the exception of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, that these kids are doomed if they win AI. Most of the runners up seem to do much better on their own.
Just my two (or is it fifty?) cents! :D

Caspi, I agree with you that a parade in Virginia is nothing to write home about, however compared to being a single teenage mom, with no money - now having record deals, touring, Broadway, her own lifetime movie and as far as I know (I read that online) she is going to star in Movie musical of The Color Purple as Celie, produced by Oprah she got out a lot from AI.
Not everybody can be the top selling artist, I think if you are an artist and you can live comfortable from your craft and doing what you love, then I'm sure they are happy with what they got out of AI.

Caro, you just reminded me of another reason why I didn't like Fantasia -- it seemed as though all you heard about all the time was how she was a single mother with no money! They really took that story and ran with it. I just got tired of hearing about it all the time.

My kids' nanny, who is also a singer, told me that she likes Fantasia because she has a "gospel voice" and I probably don't like her because I don't like gospel music (I never said that but she assumed it from the types of music I listen to). I had to disagree because Whitney started in gospel, and I've heard her sing gospel, and I LOVED it!!!
I don't know much about gospel music, so maybe my nanny was right.
I just don't like the "nasal" voice she has, and the small range (she screams and shouts high notes), that's the same reason I don't care for Mariah Carey (her voice is too nasal for me), but then again, Mariah Carey can outsing Fantasia any day of the week.

now, see I don't like Mariah or whitney either. Celine Dion either. Just not my style I guess or my kind of voice. And granted all three are amazing singers but they do nothing for me. And that's possibly why I can't stand David Archuletta either - he's cute and all (though even that's getting old) and he sings great, but he's just not my type. I like some who brings something different to the table. Even if their actual signing voice is not so wonderful. So fantasia works. Chris daughtry works. David Cook works. Outside of AI, my all time favorite is Sting and he's got an unusual voice too. So maybe that is what does it for me?
But singers that are just predictable aren't fun for me.

An MTV reporter was in the audience, and she reported that the whole audience had their mouths open with the deer in the headlights look as well. It was probably something they couldn't help. Hey, I loved my best friend's '79 Rabbit and it served its purpose well. I'd probably like the 2008 Beemer too, but its design and engineering far outclasses the Rabbit's whether I like it or not.
Not everyone would like the Rabbit, just like not everyone likes Fantasia. As evidenced by frizzyrazzy's comments, not everyone likes the styling on the Beemers either (Celine, Whitney, Mariah).
The comment about not liking Fantasia because she sings "gospel-style" is hooey. Good gospel music is just that...good. And Fantasia's performance the other night was neither gospel-style or good.

When your kids are adults, are you still going to give them the evil eye when they do or say something stupid?
The analogy works because Simon and AI gave Fantasia her shot. Simon makes a ton of money off those contestants and seeing one of his "kids" perform like that certainly would be of concern to him. Even better than the shot of his face or him exchanging glances/words with Randy would have been to be a fly on the wall backstage after the show when they ran into each other. THAT would have been the priceless moment.

I feel like a complete lazy looser when I watch her:rolleyes: how many times a day is she cleaning her kitchen floor? She is so organized, but I guess she has to be. Their household is the complete opposite to Little People Big World, I am always amazed how they let the cameras show their messy house, I truly admire them that they don't care. I think they are a cute family too.

LOL! I think the same thing about the house in LPBW! I think it's great that she really doesn't care! I'm hoping that by watching it some of that will rub off on me - LOL!

I have never been a fan of hers and I have never thought that she sounded very good.. I am guessing alot of people really didn't like her because you don't hear alot about here anymore.. Which there are several other AI people you never hear about it anymore.. I can't wait for tomorrow and Wensday.. Anxious to see who will win.. i hope David Cook, don't see Archie selling out arenas even though he is good
