Hi everyone!

I keep seeing posts about kido's who are starting Kindergarten in the fall and I'm just curious how many there are.... It seems to be a lot! :)

Bella, Allie, and Maddy will all be starting (full day!) K in September!
So far, we've got the OK that they will be in the same class. And from what we're told Bella and Cooper (the other little boy in town with D who will be starting K) will also be in the same class!

We're getting a little resistance about the 504s and the fact that there will be TWO  D kids in the same class (geesh!), so now the other mom and I are pushing for a med. aide in the class for the two kido's.... We'll see how that goes - we already know they "don't have the budget for it" haha - OK.......

Cameron is starting this fall, full day kindy. He is excited, I am freaking out LOL. We don't have 504 stuff here in Canada but Jay and I have a meeting with the school in June to go over everything and we will meet again before he starts in September.

Kaylee starts kindergarten in the fall, she's very very excited! We will have a 504 for type 1 and celiac.. The ONLY resistance I got was from the 'nurse' who thinks she needs to be sent to another school where there is a full time nurse.. to bad.. its over crowed! the school has decided they want Kaylee in her own school, the principal, Kaylee's teacher and ALL other teachers will be trained on the 'basics' including glucagon.. while her teacher, principal (who is also the 3rd and 4th grade teachers) and the aid will be trained on everything else.. the aid will be doing Kaylee's bs checks.. she's not Kaylee's personal aid, she 'floats' through the school...

Jeffrey starts in August. (we start early and end early here). Luckily for us at least, one of the second grade teachers has a son who was dx'd with type 1 just a few months before J was. All the teachers and admin staff have been trained (not that I'm relying heavily on that). My neighbor is also one of the K teachers; Jeffrey won't be in her class but at least I have an extra set of eyes. However, teachers tend to stick up for each other so I don't know how reliable that will be. I've requested a.m. Kindergarten and have been assured J will be given a spot. We also live about 8 houses away from the school so that is reasuring and my daughter will start preschool on the same campus.

All that said, I'm still very nervous. We have a "bridge camp" in June which is 3 hours a day for one week to acess the kids and give them a preview of what to expect. So we will all have a trial run. Ok, I'll stop now.:o

Leah, one of our non-D children, will start K in the fall. She is so excited. She graduated from weekday preschool last night. As she came down off the stage, she said, "I'm in K now!":D

She has been at the school so much this year as I have been with Melissa for parties (to bolus) and highly intensive PE days (to watch for lows). We've spent lots of time in the classroom and the clinic. The nurse has her spoiled with special stickers, popcorn and such. Melissa's classmates treat her like a class mascot.

I hope she won't be disappointed with having to stay in her K class and actually do schoolwork!;)

You are all smart to get the ball rolling now before school starts in the fall. :D

Gracie starts this fall. We've already met with her principal and put in a request for the teacher we think will be best for her, based on talking to lots of parents about the characteristics of the 5 teachers in our school.

Macy also starts this fall. :( I am already having panic attacks! I have requested a 504 meeting and spoken with the principal. Now I'm waiting to hear from the head nurse for the school district.

Tessa will be starting K in the fall also.
I have spoken with the school nurse, and have just gotten some sample 504 plans to help me formulate our own(thank you Barbara!), so need to get busy with that and give the school a call.

Colin is starting in the fall.

Mommy is freaking out.:eek::eek::

But the school insisted on a 504 when we met with them yesterday, so that was refreshing!:)

DD will be starting in Fall. I've met with school nurse who has provided some care for my older daughter there with asthma. She is awesome! There is a 3rd grader with pump there so nurse is familiar. my daughter is not on pump (but fast approaching, I think). I'm nervous about teacher paying enough attention to dd with 18 other 5 years olds to focus on - makes me very nervous. Friend suggested that I do a profile sheet with dd picture and instructions that can be passed along to substitute teachers that may be missed in the shuffle that sometimes occurs. Will be working on 504 plan also.

Mine is about to start high school. I am not too concerned, but he survived at the same school for 10 years. They did a good job, following everything I asked for. I did go on a lot of field trips -- and it was my choice!
