Hi, My daughter aged ten has been having a lot of hypos over the last two weeks. she is ten and starting to grow into a young lady. I was wondering if any one else had the same problems around this age group. she was changed over to three injections in January and has been great up to the last two weeks. over the weekend she practicaly lived in hypo land. we cut her insulin dose on the morning gave her a larger snack by dinnertime she was hypo again. she had glucose tabs then plenty of dinner and friut, by teatime she was hypo again. redused her teatime insulin and gave extra sugar she settled again then by 8 pm she was hypo again. had to make her a bigger supper than normal and then gave her her glargine injection. by 10pm again she was hypo. had to wake her up twice in the nigh and give her something to eat. following morning she was you guessed it hypo again. ahggggg:. she has been to school today and her sugars are 11 teatime. thank god:). hope she stays that way. she endded up with a bad tummy she had to eat so much food over the weekend:(. any Ideas why this happened?.

Hi Sue,
Is your daughter more active at the weekend? If she is, maybe plan ahead for this activity and reduce the basal (glargine) insulin shot on friday and saturday nights. Of course talk it over with your doc if you're not confident doing this yet. When was she diagnosed? maybe she is going into a 'honeymoon' period, when insulin needs are lower.

Good luck

Hi tonimum. my Daughter hasbeen dx since she was five she is now ten. she used to have two injects a day but was having very high bg levels and was changed to three injects in Jan she is more active at the weekend she goes to Gymnastics and with the warmer wether she has been out side playing more. she has been doing Gym for the past four years so we are used to changing her insulin if she is low but it has never been this bad before. she seemed to be having a lot of hypos over the last two weeks and we have dropped her insulin level to make her bg levels higher she has settled today so I hope things stay that way. I think I will give her till Thurs and see what her bg levels have been like before I get in touch with her nurse. she also suffers from Select Mutism which is an anxiety disorder which stops her from talking to people who she is not comfortable with which make it hard for her to tell the staff at school she does not feel well so Im glad her levels were higher today.:)

Oh, I see you've been at it a lot longer than I have, already. Tony has had D for 2 1/2 years now. Maybe it is a girl thing and her hormones are raging. Have you noticed a monthly pattern?
Post this quetion on the "Parents of Children with Type 1" board, and you'll get a lot more answers, Many of them have girls around your daughters age and may offer more insight to the monthly problem.
Even though it is mostly Americans, we all have the same problems and need help from anyone who has been there and done that.
I am English, by the way. Living in Arizona for the last 10 years. Originally from Yorkshire.

Hi Mumofplenty my daughters basal needs have dropped by over 10% the past couple of weeks I think like you say the warm weather and more playing bring about a reduced need for insulin and it is normal for us to lower it in summer raise in winter

hi ElaineK yes I think that is what I will have to do with my Daughter. her bg have been ok this week, but the weather here has been a lot cooler than it was last week.
Sue.

Hi Sue yes it's a nightmare my daughters bloods have been straying upwards with the cooler weather and it must be the temperature because her exercise levels have been consistent :) I am just hoping it gets warm again so I don't have to re-juggle the basals
