I am so thankful we no longer live in San Diego! I feel so bad for all of you where it has topped $4/gallon. Unfortunately, I think we'll all see it this summer:eek:

Our church just made a plea to anyone who can give more to our food bank because families who wouldn't rely on it are now coming forward. It's because lower/mid income families are spending money on gas so they can get to work so they can buy food they can no longer afford!
We are lucky because we have insurance, but what about families who have minimal or no insurance? How are they paying for basics and then d supplies on top of it? I am so concerned about that.
Being a one income house, I hear you! I drive a small (TINY) car, becuase I am on the road all the time - I live in a State where there is no public transportation and drive 50 minutes to work each and every day...gas prices have hit me hardest in the grocery area - I have had to go from making good, healthy, minimly processed meals, to feeding them mac 'n cheese from the box - and they were recently reintroduced to Ramen Noodles!!!!! When your budget doesn't have room to spare, things like rising gas and grocery prices wreaks havoc...and I am sick of telling my kids no - no movies, no mall trip, no new shoes, no haircuts, no big sleepovers, no, no, no, no:(

I am with you on that one we are also a one income household...I try to keep my van in the driveway since I am driving a 15 passanger van that sucks gas! We are talking about getting a small car just so my hubby can drive to work and that I can use for shopping and such..not too many family trips in the futhure and my trips I mean just to grandmas, camping anywhere we all have to go some place at once...
Learning to say no to the kids for me is soooooooooo hard but I am learning:(

Yes, we saw a 24 cent hike on this side of the state. YUCK!!!
I was listening to Dave Ramsey the other day and he was trying to say that it is only adding $40 a month to the average household's gas budget?! WHAT? Not in my house! I assume he is speaking in the last year, not in the last day. I can say that gas has doubled in the last year and if we are both driving we would be spending at least $130 a week compaired to maybe half that before. But now with the price of gas I am selling my durango, we are only using our little car. I come into town to work at our shop twice a week and I ride in with Jason and do all my grocery shopping, etc while I am here. We are down to maybe $60 on the low end a week, not counting mowing the lawn which has to add another $15 or so a week. We are even mowing less this year as compaired to other years. We live on 5 acres and use to mow at least 3 of it. This year we are pulling it in a bit.

Oh, and I am planning our vacation for this fall so it will be close to election time, the only chance of seeing gas prices at their lowest :)

I'm guess we are not alone, lately we have had to decide....
*Do the kids need haircuts or can I give them my famous " Mommy Back Porch Special !! Buzz it off! " Thank God I have boys !!:cwds:
*Can such & such pick this up for us, they will be in that town for work, and that is the only thing we need.
* Rethinking vacation, if the gas prices keep rising like they have.
It has hit us hard too in the grocery area......we only buy what we absolutey have to have, and no extra anything. We never get to take the kids to the movies or anything else fun.:(
I feel bad, but I think gas is a necessity, and like to have some in the tank.

I work about 60 miles away in ID (we live in WA). The gas prices drop about 30cents or more a gallon over there. I'll take my husbands car now and then to fill it up. We have 10-15 a fill up. I didn't even think about the lawn mower! Luckily my dad gave us an electric lawn mower. It will do the whole yard in one mow.
As for groceries. I've found that we can cut corners here and there and instead of moving towards boxed foods we are moving away from them. We eat more fruits and veggies. Veggies are cheap, good for you and added to the right things can stretch a meal. We eat a lot of rice as well and stir fry. We can feed 6 people for as little as 3 bucks around here.
We should share our "money saving, spike preventing recipes".
