I had to laugh at myself last night thinking I am really a nut case that sometimes simple little things make me feel so good. The endo/CDE at the hospital and I have had a few phone conversations the last 2 weeks regarding dose changes/school issues, etc. The endo is one of several at the children's hospital we go to. The normal schedule is at one visit you see the endo, the next 3 month visit you see the CDE (the endo may pop in for a few minutes if there are any problems needing to be addressed.) It just so happens he has been the one we've seen at our 3 month visits for the last year. He is always very professional, not on a personal level. I like him and have a lot of respect for him. Yesterday when he called, he ended the conversation with "Tell Shannon I said Hi". Knowing that he sees hundreds of children every week (and for things not all D, like growth hormone, etc.) this really made me happy :) I think it made me feel like he thought my DD was a real person - not just a D case. Maybe he didn't really think that, but I let myself think that and it made me smile!

Things like that are what matters in life...the little things. Sure you could win the ******* and be rich but then you have to to stress about spending it the right way and the taxes and all that. You could buy a house! But we all know the stress that come with that. You can have a baby! Again there are stresses that come with that too.

I think that when little things happen, like your endo, or a beautiful sunset, a baby's smile, your child's silly antics and finding your favorite cereal on sale are what matters. They simply make you happy! No stress involved, not side effects. Just smiles and laughs.

Unfortunately we often overlook the little things because the things that seem to go wrong in our lives are so big and bothersome that we only worry about one thing at a time and don't "stop to smell the roses".

Those little things make all the difference in the world to me too. Just last week, Tyler had a strep test - the quick result was negative, but the next morning our ped, himself, called - asked if we had a good night and then said well, I went in the lab and checked the culture and he's got it AGAIN (4th time in 16 weeks) - He asked about how his BG was running and if we needed anything else (he didn't see us the day before, another ped was on-call) - then we made arrangements for an appt with a ped ENT. Before we got off the call, I said to him -- "Thanks so much for calling, it means so much that you took the time to call yourself" - I hope my comment made him feel as good as he made me feel. It really does make a difference to see them do, or hear them say, things that let us Moms know that they really care about our kids.

Then, this week, Tyler started complaining of burning when using the bathroom - I took him in and they checked for a UTI, but the results were OK - The ped was looking him over and asking questions and I said "could it be that all of the antibiotics have given him yeast?" He looked at me, smiled and said "you know what, I bet you are right, Mom" -- now that made ME feel good in knowing that he listens and respects MY opinions.

I love our ped!
