I am so proud of my 6th grade daughter diagnosed just 5 months ago. She has to do a science project with display. She decided she wants to make a model of the pancreas and how it works for type one diabetics. I must confess that I was really impressed she has been showing a desire to educate others about her new diagnosis and lifestyle in such a positive attitude.
Now . . . I need realistic ideas for resources to help her out since we have only two weeks! I do not yet know if she has to make a model or if it is possible to borrow a model (and where to obtain). The details of making the project have me puzzled right now, but I'm just impressed that she wants to do this.
Our kids are amazing!:cwds:

That's awesome. (And challenging -- good luck!)

This is the bad attitude that comes after three kids but... I don't miss those school projects!

That's awesome! Could you check with your endo? Sometimes doctors have these types of things - often made by pharmaceutical companies with their little company names on them. She could then have a poster board with all her information on it. Worth a shot! No pun intended. :D Cute shirts on cafepress.com she could wear for display if she needs to explain the porject at any time (science night or in class). CWD used to have "Insulin is not a Cure" shirts. We have one, they're great!!!!!!

This is a great thing.. It's good that you is positive and wanting to educate others and not depressed.. Good luck with the project.

I'm impressed. Good for her! Hope she does well. I am sure that the kids will be interested in her project because they actually get to see her do these things every day.

I remember in elementary school, I did an oral presentation about Diabetes too. I am sure the kids listened to me, but absolutely didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I didn't have any models to show either, but I did alot of research at the library and that's where I grew my fondness for Sir Frederick Banting. I remember in my report that I boosted that he was Canadian. :)
