Last night Deacon's school hosted a bbq. I discovered an amazing coincidence pertaining to Deacon and a boy in his class. In my parents' neighborhood there is a Russian boy named Toya and the kids always love playing with him. Deacon has recently followed him home without me knowing it. I searched and I found him at Toya's house and Toya's mother said, "He said you knew where he was." Ah the mind of a 3 year old. Anyway, we ran into Toya and his mother at the picnic last night. Turns out, Toya and Deacon are in the same class in the mornings.

Toya's mother saw me giving Deacon his injection last night and there were no ignorant diabetes comments. Even when the kids were running up to me hands full of candy from the pinatas and I gave Deacon pieces of candy. They had 4 pinatas at the picnic. She brought up diabetic alert dogs and how she had seen a documentary on them. She asked me how many shots Deacon gets a day too. But there was nothing awful about our conversation. We all had a nice time last night.

Sara - that is refreshing! Isn't it amazing how now after D we look at things and conversations we once thought nothing about as "refreshing or special"!!!! Last night I had a phone conversation with another D mom and told her I had called, not necessarily for advice, but just to talk to someone that wouldn't look at me like I had 2 heads for once and actually get what I was saying! I am so happy you had this experience that I am sure added to the fun school event.

How great that you didn't have to have a teaching moment but instead had a meaningful conversation. I can't imagine how good that feels. We haven't had that happen yet!
