Maddison went to the urgent care yesterday morning for pink eye. It looked better right away after waking up and all day but now today after school (30 hours or so after the first dose of eye meds) it looks swollen again and she says it stings and is more painful. (she never complains about pain) So I checked the RX label and of course stinging is a side effect while using the product. Soooooooo of course we worry about our "D" kids and their healing abilities. I should probably let it go another 24 hours wouldn't you? Of course if it continues to bother her tonight I will call......what was your experience with "D" and pink eye? She is running a bit higher in the low 200-230's too.

I haven't had pink eye and D together...but a treatment the NP gave me was a weak solution of baby shampoo in water. Like 1/8 tsp in a cup or so. Use it as an eye wash. Worked like a charm.

is she using drops or the ointment? the girls will complain about the drops.. but once they're in they are OK.. its that first drop or two that gets them... I play a game with them and it works out pretty good.. I have them lay down with their head on my lap.. they shut their eyes, I put two drops in each eye while they're still closed, then I count to three and they open their eyes, blink lots, I give em' tissues to soak up what escaped and they wash hands and are good togo.. if I make them keep their eyes open they fight all the way, an they say it stings way worse.. if you are using the oinment, can't help ya because we don't use that LOL:)
BTW, I HATE pink eye, I think I'd rather deal with anything else.. it just makes my skin crawl.. we bought disinfectant and went crazy on all touchable surfaces like door knobs LOL

She is taking the drops. First day they were fine. No complaints. Today is an unusually windy day though, maybe her being outside irritated the eyes more. I dont know, it still looks terrible. I bleach bombed the whole house too:p You just feel so bad because our poor kids go through so much already! I will see what the morning brings!

Decota has had the pink eye but it has been a while. Only complained about burning for the first couple of doses....
the RX that we got was viagomox maybe if varies form med. to med.
Also I learned something today at the doc. office never have heard before
that it is common when you have a eye infection to also have a era infection doc. said that alot of times the pressure will cause ear infestions ....
so the little one has both eyes infected, a ear infection and to top it off a horrible cough and sinus infection
the battle of sickness WILL IT EVER END

Connor just had pink eye, an ear infection, bronchitis and Fifth Disease all at the same time. He acted just fine, and his eyes had just a tinge of pink. But -his blood sugars were very elevated for weeks. I had to keep calling back the endo to make changes in his ratios and Lantus. He's back to having normal numbers, but it was a frustrating few weeks. Even after his illness, his Lantus went up permanently by 2 units and his school lunch time ratios have changed. Good luck!

It's a nasty thing -- our whole family had it once. Picture keeping straight 5 different bottles of drops, 5 different little wash cloths to hold on their eyes after the "torture" of the drops, trying not to cross-infect anyone. Ick.
Our drops did sting, though a bit less once they start to work and the infection subsides. It did seem to help to clap a cold damp washcloth (actually I used old cotton breastpads lol) over the eyes after the drops and just keep them closed for a few minutes.
Could she wear sunglasses outside for a few days? Would help with the wind and sunlight can be quite irritating too.
Good luck with it!

Some other things that are effective for bacterial/viral Conjunctivitis "pink eye" and/or other general eye infections.
1. Take a Q-tip cotton swab and dip in straight peroxide, then stick in the corner
of the eye. Blink lots. May burn a little. Repeat several times per day.
2. We purchased a homopathic remedy, Similasan, available at any major drug store chain.
Helps to reduce the irritation and speed healing.

Oh man, today the eye is much worse. She only says it burns when I put the drops in, so I am talking to the urgent care to try a different RX instead of this Sulfa based drop. This doctor did a phone consult and was soooo nice! He changed the Rx and hopefully that will work!

like someone else said, there are different forms of 'pink eye' some of which the eye drops won't do anything for.. if its getting worse and not better that may be the cause.. poor thing!! also, could she be allergic to the sulfa based drops?? my dh is highly allergic to sulfa based meds (his old dr almost killed him because he wouldn't listen to his symtoms.. apparently he thought peeing red/bright orange was 'normal'.. it will killing off his red blood cells, and getting rid of them through urine:eek: he was quite sick by the time the stupid dr. realized what was going on.. ) so we stay away from any sulfa based meds for the girls..
I hope the next rx does the trick so she doesn't have to deal with it anymore!
