So after last night's hyperglycemic insulin-locked-in-the-dojo incident, SD has been a nightmare all day long. He's been picking fights with R and S all day long, and talking at 3x normal volume.

I send him to collect laundry, and he disappears for an hour -- and no laundry. I send him to clean his trash out of the car so I can go get it washed, and while he's out there he locks my steering wheel so I can't start the car... and while out there gets rid of maybe 1/4 of the trash. He "didn't see" the rest of it (it's all right there on the floor of the passenger seat where HE sits.

In the 20 minutes I'm panicking because I'm stranded with no car, the car wash closes. While I'm out finding out that the car wash is closed (and not getting the car washed), SD is supposed to be sweeping the kitching floor (he STILL has not gathered any laundry). When I get home, he's swept maybe 10 sq ft and broken my broom.

FINALLY, he says, "This day really isn't going well. I think I'll check my blood sugar."

386. "Oh, THAT's what's wrong," he says. "Guess I've been snacking without thinking about it."

YA THINK?!?!

THIS is what I mean by "ADHDiabetes". As the blood sugar approaches 400, the attention span approaches ZERO. And the mother approaches insanity.

That is all.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I'm afraid you have to add teenageness into his issues. My son was like that before diabetes and doesn't have adhd. Doing chores is not top priority so they just do things half way.....drives me nuts!!!

Only when it reaches 400?;) You're lucky! Jr's attention reaches zero when his sugar starts to reach 180! :D He has ADHD too and can't find anything that is right in front of him. He is so forgetful! We have to remind him constantly to do things that should be a normal, everyday event. And don't ask him to do anything out of eyes site, he'll completely forget what he was supposed to do before he gets there, then you don't see him for a while. You ask if he did it and he says "did what?". He always leaves everything everywhere! It drives me crazy... and when his BS is high, he's 10X worse than NORMAL. I know how you feel, I completely sympothize!

Yes, of course that is part of it. But when his blood sugar and ADHD are under control, he is at least able and willing to follow instructions (honestly -- he's a great kid, he really is!). It wasn't that he didn't WANT to do things today (although he didn't), but that his focus has been just about NIL. He literally can't remember from minute to minute what he is supposed to be doing. Drives me NUTS.

Yes, yes, YES! You get it!! You UNDERSTAND!!! :o Thanks, I feel better now!

Yeah, this is pretty typical of Sam when she's high. When you said "talking at 3x normal volume" I immediately thought about a high BG. Picking fights, not following directions, it is definitely they way my DD gets with highs.

But ya know what was great about that story ... your son took the time to think about why the day might be kinda rough and decided he should check his BG. That is fantastic! That's what you want! Yeah he was a pain in the butt today, but at least he figured it out and took the initiative to check on his own. I hope you gave him praise for that because that was a very adult-like way to act.

You know what this reminds me of?? Dori -- the Ellen DeGereres fish character on Finding Nemo with the short-term memory loss. "Gee, I wish I could speak whale...."

LOLOLOL!! I'll praise him just as soon as he actually gets the insulin injected!! He's been dancing around it for at least half an hour now. In the meantime, he's over 400. I told him if he doesn't get it injected in about 30 seconds, I'm going to do it for him and he won't like where I stick it!

But yes, you make an excellent point! It IS a fantastic thing that he can figure this out on his own (you'd think by now I could, too). Like I said, he really is a great kid.

I have a 9 y/o with ADD, I know what you are going through. And when he is in 200's (which he has been alot this week:eek:) it is hard to deal with. Today, for example, I would tell him to wash hands to check, he:rolleyes: never got to the bathroom, so I had to walk him in there.

I will say that he is a good kid, but DANG!!! he can wear me out sometimes.
I hope your days get better!:D
