I am still currently finding a rental house for my sons and I. It seems hopeless. First of all finding a house in the areas I want that we can afford seems to be impossible. Right now my credit is phenomenal but I haven't been employed in years. We haven't been renters since two years ago. I am currently in school. My income right now is child support and my parents helping. So with my rental application I include a type written military rental background and explanations about my income. Today I applied for another house and I am expecting not to get that one either. I have until June to find a place but I am just so disappointed and I think this is hopeless. Who wants to rent to a single mother of four who is currently living off of child support and her parents? My good things are that my credit is impeccable and I am a straight A student. Sigh.

Sara,
Could you look into programs for housing? I currently rent a 3 bedroom duplex for a regular amount of rent, and the people on the other side of me are in housing, so they don't pay as much rent. And it's a nice house in a nice neighborhood. I love the house. My mother in law also is in a really nice apartment part of housing.
There might be a waiting list, but if you are not getting anywhere without work verification, you might want to give that a shot.
Good luck.

I work with a lot of lower income women and 90% are eligible for state rental assistance of some kind. Find out what's available in your area and take advantage of it until you get on your feet. That's why it's there.
