I was asked this and I dont know the answer. How do you know if its a rebound high or a high from something else if you dont catch the low first?

It is unexplainable and stubborn to come down!

We were told by our endo that if the high doesn't respond to correction, that it is more than likely a rebound. You have to be careful about treating a rebound, because once those hormones are ready to shut off, if you've got a lot of active insulin, it could actually make you go low. He told us to just ride out the highs until the number comes back to normal. Keep track of how long it takes for that to happen. If you try to treat the high too close to the end of that time period, that's when they may go low. He actually told us not to treat rebound highs, but we have an idea of the time frame that we can safely treat, and figure that every few points lower (if it doesn't respond fully) is better.

A rebound high doesn't come down completely with a normal correction. It seems that it takes several hours to come down completely.
