You know I had a get together (reunion) with some ex-coworkers and my ex boss was there also. I really love him to death but really, this just got under my skin. His wife is a "holistic" type of doctor...you know herbs, vitamins etc. And he was telling me how I aught to really talk with her about getting some supplements for my son so that he can be cured from the diabetes. Lordy....like doesn't he think that if there was a supplemental cure all our endos would know about it and let us know? I flat out told him....his pancreas doesn't work! No amount of vitamins will change that! I think I might have sounded a bit harsh but really! Enough is enough with the well wishing naturalist gurus!

Do you think he misunderstood and thought your DS had type 2? I'm all for vitamins if for an instant I think it will prevent my DS from catching an illness and making life with D harder however, even then vitamins dont always work.

That is SO frustrating, I'm sorry you are having to deal with this.
Don't people realize we would do anything to rid our kids of this disease?
Has this woman been told before, "hey this doesn't work for us?" It doesn't sound to me like you were too harsh

TracieandJim,
He's know my son since my son was 4. He is now 12.5 and knew about the different types. He was not working there at the time but of course I called him and told him what was going on. I think he knows the type 1 and type 2 difference but of course doesn't know just how severe perhaps the type 1 is regarding NO insulin production as apposed to insufficient insulin production as with Type 2.

When you find out the vitamins PLEASE LET ME KNOW too!! Wouldnt it be great???
Im sorry that you had to deal with that and it got you upset...I certainly can understand. Don't these people think we would do ANYTHING for our children if it meant they would be CURED?? Jeeessss.

that's what bugs me the most when someone mentions cinnamon/raw food/The Secret, etc. Like I'm some crappy mom who enjoys giving 3 shots a day and numerous finger pricks.

I'm so sorry you had to "endure" that garbage. My husband (Kristophers Grandpa) has been on the "holistic" kick since way before Kristopher was Dx'd:rolleyes:.We've heard about "cures" for everything from precancerous breat lumps to Diabetes.........cinnamon,cayanne pepper & VITAMINS..."the end all cure all of EVERYTHING" I finally got pretty upset, and rexplained everything the Drs had told us (and he knew all this BEFORE because we were both emts) and asked him was trying these "cures" worth his firstborn Grandsons life? Did we need another week in the hospital or worse?? I think (atleast in my husbands mind) he thought he was going to fix it........you know the ol' Roy Rogers ride to the rescue thing? He doesn't say much about it anymore, but you can tell it's always "lurking" in the back of that holistic head of his,:rolleyes:Thankfully he's back to work so there's less time to dwell on "cures" online!
I'm just to the point,if that whole mess comes up,talk to the hand, because the ears aren't listening.........these are our babies we're talking about, and it's hard enough on them (and us) to deal with it & try to live a "normal" life without some idiot giving these little guys false hope!! Lori

The people who talk about the "natural cures or helps" to me don't seem to know much about Type 1.
It's just not a cure to take some dehydrated fruits/veggies, get your spine adjusted, and have someone look at your iris and pump your own urine back into your veins.
I met a Chiropractor and he wants my DD to try some special water because their diabetic patients have seen a 100 point drop in their blood sugars. Then, the chiropractor warned me that after she'd had her subluxation (spine adjusted) that she would probably see a drop in insulin needs. --That didn't happen. It doesn't matter seem how much I explain...
Then, there is the whole food mama who really thinks that this certain Iridologist can cure my DD or significantly help her. She made some reference to my DD being sickly...<sigh> Although, the woman has never met DD.
Then, there is a couple that we're friends with who want to sell me Juice Plus because they feel it has the potential to really help my DD. I'll stop there...since we're friends...
