It's been beautiful here so we went for our first long bike ride this season yesterday. We did 12 kms and the kids probably did 15 kms because the bigger kids like to ride ahead and come back while we ride with my youngest. We typically hike on Sunday afternoons so this kind of sustained activity is part of our regular routine. It's not uncommon for us to bike 10 kms (or more) in a day 4 - 5 times a week but they are usually broken up into smaller trips throughout the day.
Here are her numbers - can you help me figure out the weirdness at night?
3:05 pm- at the start of the ride 6.7 (120)
4:45 pm - towards the end of the ride 24.3 (437)
(She had been eating trail mix along the ride and wanted an apple. We gave her 2.5 units rapid which would have been about 2/3s of the regular dose based on our guess about how much trail mix she consumed)
5:45 pm - on the way home from the ride 12.1 (218) eats another 10 carbs
7:10 pm - dinner BBQ chicken, veggie and couscous salad, low fat 3.8 (68)
Gave her 3 units adjusting for the low as we normally would.
8:00 pm- 7.3 (131)
9:30 pm - bedtime 7.8 (141) Lantus shot
11:50 pm - 14.8 (266) - What's this?
I thought she would have been going low as she didn't have much of a post dinner rise so we didn't do anything.
1:10 am 11.7 (211) - again no correction
4:25 am 5.9 (106)
7:35 am 4.3 (77)
Is a 6 hour post exercise spike common?
She's been trending a bit low over night over the last week which is coinciding with her getting over a cold/cough and our nice weather. We've adjusted the Lantus down twice over the last week and she's back to where she was before getting sick. I think I am going to bring her down another 0.5 unit tonight.
