Just thought of opening up a thread where you could post the titles of books you've found interesting dealing with Type 1 Diabetes.
Thanks!

Here's two suggestions:

'A Field Guide to Type 1 Diabetes' - ADA ----
small, informative, I think for immediate family or friends who are interested in 'getting it'....the one I have is from 2002, so a bit old, but still relevant for quick info (kind of Cliff Notes to Type 1 d, IMO)

'What to do When the Doctor Says it's Diabetes - The Most Important Things You Need to Know About Blood Sugar, Diet, and Exercise for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes' - Winnie Yu, Melvin Stjernhol & Alexis Munier ----
never read it but I think it was mentioned in the original thread...

I have a neat little pocket book called "The G.I. Factor, The Glucose Revolution for Children with Type 1 Diabetes". Although the main aim is to teach about Low G.I., High G.I. foods, it also explains really well about Type 1 D, hypos, exercise and carbohydrates etc, and also talks about Diabetes through different ages giving menu ideas for each age group. There is a great chapter on alcohol and teenagers. At the back of the book is an A-Z list of foods each with the G.I. Factor, fat and carbs per serve :cwds:

Yes, I have that one too. Quite handy...not so daunting as the usual bigger books on Glycemic Index.

I got into some autobiographies for a while.
Needles is good, in many ways, especially if you are looking to have a negative attitude reinforced.
I liked it and hated it at the same time. It seemed like the author had almost NO knowledge of her disease process for a long time, and I kept wondering what the deal was with the parents... why did they not care more?
But it is a true story, and therefore, very important. You can buy it cheaply used on Amazon.

Anyone have book suggestions on how digestion works? Like a simple overview of how carbs, proteins, fats, etc are digested and the different metabolic and digestive process going on and how they may affect the blood sugar level?

Also a book suggestion on the different hormones and how they affect bg? Maybe that's also included in the 'digestion' book.

Thanks!
