Id like to do the TrialNet study and see if I have the antibodies or whatever it is they test for, but we live in the middle of nowhere. Do you have to be near a major hospital to participate or can anybody do the blood draw?

I did not do the TrialNet study. What my doctor did, probably because I was displaying symptoms is have a GAD65 antibody test run.
You could possibly ask your doctor to have a blood draw and have them test for the GAD65 antibody. What you could say is that you want to know if your or other family members are at risk of getting D...Just a thought..

It is my understanding that if you contact the folks at TrailNet they will put you in contact with a lab local to you where the blood draw can be done. The blood is then shipped to the research center in Florida. It's been awhile since I looked into it but that is what I seem to remember.

I participated in the TrialNet Study through Stanford. I live 6 hours from Stanford so they mailed me a package. It comes with instructions for the lab on where to send your sample. Good luck!

Trialnet also takes it further then the GAD65 antibody. The GAD65 is the most common, but not the only one. I'd either go with trialnet for testing, or mimic the lab order that they would do.

No, they go to the ADA expos, as well as D camps. Call your local cde's and ask them to get you hooked up. They should be able to.

Try logging onto to www.diabetestrialnet.org they will have a phone number that you can see where the closest one to you is. We are doing ours May 3. I just saw the trial net people at our JDRF walk this passed Sunday and talked to them.. Very nice people.
