D runs on my dh side of the family, my sil has a 1 year old boy which my mil babysits for. MIL calls me and asks what kind of diapers i used when the kids were little. OK my youngest is 11! I ask why and she tells me the baby is soaking through. so you know my first thought. I told her she needed to know what to look for in a d dx. she told me he would NEVER get d because he has more of his fathers genes than of my husbands sister, because he looks like his dad and not his mom! So i told her to buy thicker diapers! cant talk to that woman!!!!!

I'm sorry!!!!

I have another dumb(stupid) m i law comment. She said its a good thing that it was Trey who was dx'd D and not Stacy's(dh sister) son. Because she would have not been able to handle it like you. MIL won't sit for Trey cause she "can't handle it" . C'mon I was the most needle phobic, medical phobic person. I just do what I gotta do......is what I told her.

Mom2Kenny,

Tell MIL that if the child has more of his father's genes then maybe she should just change his diapers more often. Even the best diapers will leak if you don't change them often enough!

TreysMom,

My Dad said a similar thing to me once. Basically he said that of all the grandkids, he thought Alex could handle D the best. But I think he was just trying to be supportive and say that Alex is a great kid. My sil, however, heard the comment and was offended! LOL Would she like one of her kids to have D??? (To be honest, I think my dad is right to an extent. Some of the other cousins could probably handle it equally as well but since Alex is doing so well, I doubt they could do better.)

There is some logic in what your MIL said.....NOT!!!!!

Mine is similar...gotta love her though (hmmm, not really!)...she taught me how to be assertive...towards her!!!;)

hmmm, D is on my side and my son looks nothing like me:p Some people don't realize you change a diaper after one pee, not every few hours or so-gross!

FIL told us he was glad Alex had us since we're so educated. "I'd never be able to do that stuff" he said. Ok. You'd let your child drop dead rather than give an injection and poke his fingers? I Don't Think So!
Sadly though, he probably would just sit there like a deer in headlights and wait for his wife to take of everything if they had a D child. I Wouldn't leave kids alone with him before as he refuses to change diapers"Makes me sick". No one likes to change diapers, it just has to be done.(C'mon, if you can wipe your own posterior, you can clean a baby!)
Now, he basically doesn't get left alone at all with kids. Still got a baby in diapers, and he won't learn any of Alex D care, so unless my MIL is there(she's a Nurse, God Bless her!), no grandkids for him.

I love stupid people. They make me feel better. Katerina looks 100% like my hubbys family, she inherited every Middle Eastern gene there is to inherit! If there was any way you could speak to your MIL without being chastised (sounds like not) you could explain to her that you dont HAVE to have a T1 grandparent or parent to have the chances of getting T1. You can have two recessive T1 genes that have floated around the family gene pool for centuries!!! In Kats case, I had the recssive gene because I am a carrier of my moms T1, and on her daddys side it floated around for 100 yrs before surfacing in her. Some people dont even have traces of the antibody that is present when you have a high chance of getting it, and they still get it.

HA! Me too. My MIL drove me crazy as long as I tried to be nice and please her. The day I stood my ground and spoke my mind she backed off. We get along SOOOOO much better now.

Too bad there's no cure for stupid In Laws:D

I won't begin to even go there with my MIL.. But God help us... :) My MIL still keeps pics of my dh with his ex wife in her house on the walls, in her office on the walls, and talks and hangs out with her all the time.. Even though she cheated on her son.... How stupid is that.. And there is sooo much more, but I don't guess I need to spill all my dirty laundry.. lol

I want to start by saying that my mil is a very good hearted lady who happens drive her son and I nuts on a few issues. This is the one that always gets me...anytime we go to a family dinner at their house and there is someone new there (bil new girlfriend, distant cousin in town for a visit, ect.) he tells them in a hushed voice "Zeb had diabetes real bad". UGH! She means well but ohh it makes me crazy.
