Probably a thread out there somewhere...too lazy to look.

Just wondering if and what vitamin supplements you give to your kids, especially little ones. I know that with a well-balanced diet, you don't need any supplements, but it can't hurt, right? (or does it??)

Thanks

I read somewhere here, that Thiamine deficiency was linked to diabetic complications. At the time, my kids were taking gummy vitamins and when I looked at the label I noticed that none of the gummi style vitamins contain B1 (thiamine), so we switched to traditional chewables containing B1.

Yea, it is strawberry flavored, little balls with liquid in it and the "skin" is chewy. My kids call them fish eggs. It says thay can chew them or swallow whole.

I give my older two a great vitamin recommended to me by a nutritionist (she said her kids stopped getting sick after taking this vitamin).

http://www.evitamins.com/product.asp?pid=8555

It has everything in it, and is sweetened with fructose and each one 2 grams of carbs. It has thiamine.

I give them coreomega omega-3

I also give them a great probiotic from renew-life

I believe that using a good quality vitamin, probiotic and omega-3 helps immunity. My son got stomach flu, but only felt queasy and never threw-up. My daughter had stomach flu, only threw up once and was fine the next day.

I started my 2 year old on a different probiotic for infants that is in powder form (he also get a liquid vitamin and fish oil).

My endo's CDE raves about probiotics and said studies have shown they really decrease the length and severity of stomach flu - and diabetics should take them.

After reading about the same B1 study Kirsten posted I changed my kids viatmins to Nature's Plus Animal Parade vitamins. They weren't crazy for the Flintstone vitamin's for some reason. They also get Coromega fish oil. I get both fron dugstore.com.

Generic kid-friendly vitamins in bulk from BJ's. I have no idea what's in them, but they do look fairly vitaminy. Alex is way too picky and I'm sure he needs them, unless they start making hotdogs with 54 added vitamins and minerals.
