Make sure that when you buy this book, you have the latest edition. My friend told me that a large "Big Book" store sold her an old copy of Walsh's other book, "Using Insulin." I bought mine from Amazon.

:o Finishing Chapter 1...and boy, I am totally and unequivocally (sp?) ignorant to many things....things which we never learned here. We truly just know the basic basics...very glad I started with this book. Will post some questions for the more experienced maybe this weekend...and remember, I'm only on chapter 1.

I didn't know you could set up carb factor, correction factor (I mean we just correct w/ a simple bolus not accounting for any active insulin) on the pump:confused:....this is scary and embarrassing for me to admit...

Oh, and I met BOB....seriously, so many things to HELP us, and I just never used them..

How's everyone doing?

Me again...still reading and learning!

I will never look at A1c again like I used to. I used to panic about the A1c before each endo visit, when I should be more worried about glucose exposure and variability....mostly variability for my son...have to discuss my fears with the endo. Real eye-opener.

Another fear now is how much damage has the A1c at dx done already (Ian's was 13)?

Funny, I don't think I have ever read the book cover to cover. I work through the flow chart :)

I've been away on vacation and was hoping you guys didn't get to far. I tried to read on the plane. I have read almost the whole book but was wondering are we going chapter by chapter? I am really excited that I can share this with someone. Hubby isn't interested in reading it. He just leaves it up to me to give him the cliff notes. LOL!

Hey Judi,

I'm reading it. Should be done by end of this week.

I don't think we should have a deadline, since YSMV (Your Schedule/Sleep May Vary);)...so I was thinking whenever anyone has a question/comment on any of the books, then they post. Hopefully someone will answer back.

BTW...are there cliff notes on these books? Le me know:D

Take care!

I have read this book from cover-to-cover twice and I still re-read sections pertinent to my granddaughter. I like to review it just before a sleepover or when I am going to sit with her during a period when she is having wide swings in her BG.

The book plus current information from Emmasmom such as basal rate, correction factors, etc. make caring for her much easier.

Thank you for posting!

Let me first tell you I think it's admirable that grandparents also get involved in d management when they can. Many don't want to do it, because they are scared of doing something wrong, or harming the child. Kudos to you for what you do!

Yes, this book is really good...it is giving me a feeling of 'Hey...I control the pump and what it does...it doesn't control me'...sometimes devices, especially 'medical' ones, can be very daunting. Only recently did I get enough courage to change basal rates myself...there are so many features on the pump I've not used & didn't know about...but so helpful.

Just got my book today. I bought it on half.com.

I'm also reading Cheating Destiny.

I think I'm ADD when it comes to reading. I always have two or three books going at a time.

Hopefully, we will be getting a pump this summer. Reading this book will be great preparation.

EEEK...in total honesty, althought the book is great...I should've started with a more general one like Dr. Hanas 'Type 1 Diabetes'.
I'm rereading 'Pumping Insulin' and am on info overload...too much too soon.

What would be great is having a Pink Panther type of book for 'Pumping Insulin'...a shorter version to give you just enough info. to feel comfortable to start using the more advanced pump features, yet have the full-lenght book for in-depth info.

In any case, I'm sticking with it until I get everything!

I'm enjoying this book. We should be getting our pump within the next few weeks. Hopefully, after reading Pumping Insulin, we will take advantage of more of the smart features of the pump early on.

Our main reason for choosing to pump is insulin sensitivty issues. I am looking forward to smaller doses as needed, BOB, carb factors, combo boluses and so much more.

I've been doing a lot of this by intuition. But I am only one person. I cannot always be with my daughter. I want her to have consistant D care with or without me. Having a pump do more of the thinking will be awesome.
