I have just returned from the International Diabetes Federation Western Pacific Region Congress http://www.idfwpr2008.org/ in Wellington, NZ. I haven't read all the posts in this thread BUT after listening to speakers from different IDF regions PLEASE if you have any spare D supplies consider www.insulinforlife.org as a place to donate them

does anyone know what exactly they will accept as donations?
Other supplies or just insulin?
Also, my 4 year old uses say 180u of humalog and 155 u of lantus a month. So needless to say, I throw away 90% of the bottle every month, does anyone know a place where I could ship this for good use, I figure a bit old insulin is better than none!
Thanks

I don't see where they let you send unused/unneeded supplies, only a place for monetary donations. Maybe I'm missing it.

I didn't see anything about supplies either, that is why I asked, I guess the title of the post made me think they would accept them. I'll see if anyone else knows. Thanks
Please ship all insulin and/or supplies to:
OUHSC
Department of Endocrinology & Diabetes
Atten: Becky Mosley
941 Stanton L. Young Blvd., BSEB 302
Oklahoma City, OK 73104
For additional information on shipping insulin to our Center for distribution, please contact Mrs. Becky Mosley at (405) 271-3971 .
IFL objectives are: (http://w3.ouhsc.edu/Endocrinology/CommReach/IFL.asp)
To donate insulin, glucose test strips and other supplies in urgent situations
To mentor similar programs elsewhere
To help develop and implement sustainable improvements in insulin supply in countries in need
The program is based on the collecting no longer needed, unopened and in-date (with at least 5 months to use-by date) insulin and glucose test strips that would otherwise be wasted from diabetes centers and sending them overseas.

Thanks for sharing the information.
I personally know so many people who don't have insurance and struggle with the cost of D supplies, that I just "donate" personally to that individual. Sure, there isn't a tax deduction, but I know that the person actually gets it in a timely manner and the person is definitely in need.

I agree with you.. I think that the other is a good idea, but if there are families here or other families that you know of who could really use the help, why not help them first!!

I agree as well. There seemed to be a lot of supplies on the list that everyone had extras of (multiclix lancets, or pen needles) and no one was taking them.
I don't know anyone personally who needs supplies so this seemed like a good solution for those.
