We are currently choosing a new pump after 4 years on the Minimed 512. We never used the link feature or any of the other features where the pump suggests an amount of insulin to give.

I have heard the phrase "the pump wouldn't let me correct" and I wonder how often people override the pump's suggested insulin amount when bolusing or correcting.

The Minimed 515 gives you a suggested bolus and you press act to send it or go back and enter a manual bolus if you want to do something different. It is not hard to override it. I have done it many times. However, in theory, if all the numbers are set correctly for the calculations, then there would not be much need for override. I have figured out my son needs less correction at night, although the Dr. hasn't officially changed the sensitivity for night time. I just haven't changed the setting in the pump, so I override all suggested boluses at night and decrease the amount. Otherwise, I generally use the suggested amount the majority of the time. It is a great feature.

we have the animas 1250, it one of the smart pumps.. its easy to " overide " it decision... 1. we dont put bloodsugars in for my 5 year old if she is low, becuse it wont give insulin even if you bound her up with lots of food. so we just will put some ( not all carbs in for a low correction if she eats lots of food that needs a correction for).......... also it has ana area where you can put your own choice in ( normal bolus).. it has an area for just blood sugars ( ezbg) and a anrea that will factor for bloodsugars, carbs eaten adn Insulin already on board... IT will suggest how much to give based on all above info and then you manully match the number or put in your own.. its very easy
