Kylee has been invited to a sleepover/pool party tomorrow evening. Its her friends birthday and she decided to invite a few girls and stay in a hotel with a swimming pool so they could swim whenever. Any suggestions on what I should give Kylee as a snack before she swims? How often should she check her sugars? How often should she have something to eat? This friend is the girl that lives across the street and she stays with her almost every other weekend, so her parents are well aware of everything to watch for. The mom is a little nervous about not just being across the street though.

we tend to go high while swimming and then drop like bombs in this house i sugest no corrections and 15 grams for 15 minutes of activity better to run higher at parties and when away from home best of luck

I almost always go low while I am swimming...even when I disconect from my pump. Make sure she ckecks before she goes swimming, and make sure she is higher than about 110. Even then she should probably take a carb. It kind of depends on if they are going to be actually swimming, or just standing in the pool talking and doing a little bit of moving around. Just make sure she checks offten because she cannot 'suspend' her lantus so she will still be getting insulin. I go low even when i have no insulin (disconect from pump). I hope she has fun!!!:)

I think this child is on shots right? More to eat without bolusing would help. Remind her that she needs to check at night. Peanut butter is high in fat so it carries well and won't spoil in a zip lock while at the bottom of her jammie bag. She is going to have a blast!

You asked what kind of snack - something with carbs and protein - like granola bars, peanut butter, yogurt, we love the clif bars - half a clif bar is only a bite or two and packs a whallop. I'd make sure she has pb crackers with her or cheese crackers for before bed and then maybe also undose her for whatever foods she's eating.
Well, we just did this last weekend - and I made sure there were plenty of chips, cake, ice cream, and candy on hand - hey - it was her 10th birthday party! (And let me tell you - everyone looking for party ideas - the hotel with swimming is the bomb!)
The party started at 4, they where swimming from 4:30 - 6:30. She was 128 going in - 76 coming out.
Pizza, cake, ice cream, chips...back into the pool at 7:30 - test at 8:30 - 56
Treat
Test at 9:30 - 72 - treat
Kicked out of pool at 10:30 - 58 - treat
11:30 - 76
12: 30 - 101
1:30am - 56
2:30 am - 138
I woke up and tested at 4:30 - she was around 101
So, moral of the story - your daughter will need to test alot - but she will be up all night gabbing with her friends, so let her know that you expect her test every hour!
