View Full Version : Is it easy to do an alternating temp basal pattern on the MM522

I was thinking of doing .05u/h, then .1 u/h, then .05u/h, then .1u/h, etc. . . during the day to keep Elizabeth a bit lower in her range, but more safely. Is this something doable on the MM522 model, or is this difficult to program?

As a "temp basal" it would be a nightmare as you would have to remember to change it on the hour.
But you could do it as a Pattern. That way you could switch back to the main basal settings if needed. Let me know if you need help doing that.
Also, FYI one thing that I have found helpful for setting a variety of basals is to program in a setting for every hour, on the hour, even if some of the settings are the same (e.g., 12:00 .05, 1:00 .05, 2:00 .05; etc.) That way if you want to tweak a specific hour, you don't have to scroll through and change all the other hour settings that follow.

Yes, what are the step by step ways to do that with a pattern? Thanks!!

I had to pull out the manual as my little guy (and his pump) are at the circus tonight!
You need to have the basal pattern features turned on. Main > Basal > Patterns and select on.
Then do Main > Basal> Set/edit Basal and select Pattern A.
Then go in in set the basals as you would. So in your case, select 12:00 am then .05; 1:00 am 1.0; 2:00 am .05 etc. If you are really doing this all day and you use my handy-dandy trick of doing a setting for all hours, whether or not there are changes among them, you should end up with 24 settings.
If you ever want to go back to the basal setting you started with, just do Main > Basal > Standard and you'll be back to where you started.
I am using the Pattern A basal right now with a significant increase in the basals that is more complex than a temp basal could have achieved. But I wanted to be able to pull back quickly to the old, lower basal setting, particularly if my guy started running low at preschool, with the nanny etc.
Also, when you upload the data to Carelink, it will show you both basal programs - the Standard and the A. This is helpful for if your A plan turns into a longterm one and you need to program the Standard one.

Your best bet is to use Paradigm Pal software that came with it to do it.
Otherwise, Act -> basal -> Patterns, to turn on patterns, then in edit basal select pattern A or something and just put it in like you did your normal basal.

I use the pattern A whenever I want to make some major changes but am not sure if it is going to permanent or if it is illness/growth related. That way I can just pop back to the standard pattern if she starts going low alot.
