We have been having a lot of trouble with cereals like Kashi that have 10 grams of fiber/serving AND 13 grams of protein a serving. Normally we subtract for fiber from all foods and have great results. But I have noticed that with Kashi, Carson will spike horribly! He'll go from 100 to 350, when normally he would only go up to 150 or so.

It just occured to me the other day that the spike could be from the high protein in the cereal. I'm thinking of NOT subtracting for all that fiber because the protein may cause him to go higher??

Am I off base?? Just curious if anyone else has this issue.

For other cereals with high fiber and NO protein, he is fine, we just subtract for fiber and all is well.

We had to stop eating kashi because of the spike.:(

We don't do much cold cereal any more (it's just too evil!), but we do have pretty good luck with Peanut Butter Bumpers (sort of like Reese Peanut Butter Cereal). It's corn meal based with PB for protein and is much easier for us to manage.

Plus it tastes awesome!

Thanks -- I tried Kashi another day and did not subtract fiber, just bolused for the whole thing. It helped, but he was still high. When he has the other high fiber cereals with no protein, we subtract and his numbers are great. Even with regular cold cereal, no spike, just with Kashi. Has to be something with the protein.
