Hello all,

I just wanted to share the good news. Zeb is getting a pump. We were approved for it last week, but it is gonna take awhile because he is covered by Mediciad and that may slow things down some. He will be getting the Animas 1250 in blue. His big brother and sister are excited. Our training is schedualed for the begining of November and big sister is really hoping he will be on the pump for Thanksgiving.
I am really excited, and so happy that he is able to get started before a whole year of D. I think I may be a bit worried too as last night I dreamed about doing his first infusion set change and in the dream the neddle was like 8 inches long:eek:
Well thats all for now, I am sure as the time gets closer I well have lots of questions but right now I am just excited!

Hope everyone has a great day,
Robyn

Congrats on the pump. My son just started pumping in June. I was so excited when he was approved and then right before the start date I started freaking out with fear. The first few set changes seemed like they took forever because I checked and double checked etc. Now it seems like a race where he just makes a pit stop and keeps on going. Things definitely will become routine in no time. The set changes really aren't bad. Of course, we use EMLA, so my son doesn't feel the needle (so he doesn't care what size it is).
I hope you are started before the Holidays. It does make a bigger difference than I ever imagined. I'm excited for you. Try not to freak out like I did if possible. It is a great thing and the set changes will become routine in no time.

That's great - William has an animas pump and they have been good with customer service. You will love pumping!

Congrats on the pump! We too, are on the Animas 1250 (blue also), and are very pleased with it. The small dosing was the deciding factor for us. The trainers are great (ours came to our house) and customer service is wonderful. In fact, if you have questions pertaining to insurance, I suggest you call Animas first, they know more about insurance coverage for the pump than the insurance company themselves!

You won't be dissappointed:D

You are correct on Animas knowing the insurance companies as well as the clinics they regularly work with! We are electing to have my son take a class at his clinic. I am thinking that having others starting out on the pump at the same time would make a difference to my son.

Joey also has a blue Animas 1250. we've been pumping for 5 weeks and I am very happy. Although it still is alot of work, it is a different kind of work and it is rewarding to know that his BG is in better control. The first few weeks are tough but totally worth it.

It is also awesome to no longer be fighting about food (Having to eat when not hungry, being "deprived" food when he was). I still get a little pang in my heart when he says "can i have that?" and when i say "yes, you can" he says in this sweet incredulous way "I CAN???!!!???".

I also know that his overnight numbers are much more stable - NPH was a nightmare.

As for the site changes, its scary in the beginning but it really is like a nothing experience for us. Joey is a little anxious before but afterwards he ALWAYS says "that didn't hurt" - and we don't use emla cream.

Congratulations! I know you will be very happy with the pump.

Congratulations!

We are on the blue Animas 1250 also. Been pumping for about 4 weeks now. Jacob was on such a small dosage of NPH, they didn't think he would need much insulin when we started pumpin. Boy were they wrong.

We went to our first birthday party Saturday since he has been pumping. He was so excited that he could have a whole piece of cake. I have not seen him that happy in a long time (and the cake wasn't even around snack time!)

You will love it and so will Zeb. Jacob is so proud to show everyone his "computer".

That's great news! It is exciting and scary! It will be worth it!

Last year at Christmas we were still doing the designated carbs per meal at certain designated times. My husbands family made such a fus about having to eat at a certain time it was rediculous. I tried being nice for about a month but I was pissed. They said well Ty will just have to eat earlier than we do. I said, I don't think so. Your grandchild almost died and all you can think about is what time you want to eat.

It's 5:30 pm at your place or 5:30 at mine, I will not have Ty being punished because he has diabetes. It was held at 5:30. This time around he can eat when he wants and what he wants with the pump. He was able to do this at Easter, but Thanksgiving and Christmas were a real bummer for him last year so we look forward to this time too.

You are gonna love it! Good Luck! God Bless! Tami

Thanks all. We are very excited. His insulin start date is 11-9, my daughter's 9th birthday is the 15th. She was soo happy to hear the Zeb will have his pump for her birthday.
I am really excited about the holiday season this year because last year was awful. December started with what I thought was just a cranky 18 month old. By Christmas it was clear that he was sick but what was really going on was masked by a bad ear infection. I hate to even look back a last Christmas pictures because he looked so pitiful. So the thought of him being able to enjoy Christmas is wonderful. Plus I love to bake and am looking forward to making all of my favorite christmas cookies!!

Thanks again everyone, I will keep you update on our progress.

What do you think will ease the process of starting to use pump for a 3 y/o?

I love the pump ..... LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

Just be prepared for a rocky adjustment - ours took 3 weeks. But I pretty much let Joey eat whatever he wants right now (he only went overboard once) and it is so nice to be able to eat around our life instead of living life around Joey's diet and eating schedule. I think I'll celebrate pump anniversaries more than birthdays. :D

Yay for Zeb!!!! I hope it makes you all as happy as it has made our family.

We are hoping to start by the end of the year....getting the paperwork in process right now. I'm a little worried about starting during school, so am hoping to start either on Fall Break (a week off in Oct) or over Christmas vacation (2 weeks in Dec/Jan). I want to get it before the end of the year to meet our deductible and all that good stuff, gotta love all the insurance ins and outs....:D
Best wishes on pumping - hope that Zeb likes it as much as everyone else seems to!!:)
