I'm wondering if anyone has tried the new Cleo infusion set by Smith's Medical? I'm working on getting some samples of it to try. We have only used the Accucheck Tenders -- they've been great, but Carson NEEDS Emla cream to handle the long needles. We had to do an emergency site change today and didn't have time for emla and it was HORRIBLE!!!

I'd like to try another set with an inserter so he won't see the scary needles!! Does anyone know if the Quick-Set will fit Cozmo or is it just for Minimed?

There's advantages to both kinds of sets. With the tenders, you can see the canula going into the skin -- that's how I knew we needed a site change. There was blood in the cannula ( and a 355 blood sugar reading). I wouldn't have seen that with the cleo or quickset. But, on the other hand, it would be really nice to get away from the emla cream.

Looking forward to your input.

Hi,

We're interested in the Cleos too but can't get them in Canada yet.

You CAN get a version of the Quickset with a Luer lock connection to use with other pumps -- we use it with the Animas. I have to say I do trust the angled set better (we use the Comfort short, not as horrendous looking) -- not just because you can see it but because it just stays put better.

Funnily enough, my son was fine inserting the Comforts with no Emla but used it for inserting the Quicksets with the inserter for several months. He has just now decided he can do without it...

My son hasn't used the CLEOs, but I have seen and heard of many problems using them. It seems that after two days of use, the child gets a blockage error. I would use something else.

There is the Inset, which comes in different lengths and such. It's all in one, like the Cleo, and it goes straight in, it's put out by Unomedical. I've yet to have a problem with the Insets and have to change a site, I had issues with the Comforts when I used those, but since I switched, it's been good. See if you might be able to get some samples, worth a shot.

Call Auto Control Medical, They now have them according to the Vancouver BC rep John Grey, I was called on Thursday and told I should try them(I'm happy with quicksets and the inserter)

I have been using the Cleo sets for about 8 months now and they are great. They are quick and easy to use, and the needle is short. Also, the set itself is extremely small and very hard to have ripped out compared to the sideways sets. I highly recommend the switch for a more painless, convientient, less noticeable infusion set.

P.S. if you want to numb the sting of putting in the set, a trick I use is putting a pack of ice where I am going to put the set in, and I wait until it becomes numb. Easier than the Emla cream.

I agree with everyone else who loves the CLEO... I love them. I've had no problems with leakage or the site coming loose and it doesn't hurt nearly as much as the straight sets I was using before.

We've only ever used Cleo's, and have never had a problem at all. At first, we seemed to have "site issues", but in retrospect I think it was newbie user error, as we haven't had any since.

She is on day 4 of her current site with a Cleo now, and still getting great readings. We always change on day 3, but yesterday was so hectic we didn't remember until late at night (yes, we do the reminder on the pump, but we couldn't change it at that time  ). So, I'm going to change it today.

We clean the area with 2 alcohol wipes, then IV Prep, letting each layer dry in-between. The Cleo sticks by itself just fine on Emily, but she often likes to wear a Groovy Patch over it, and that helps it stay on very well.

We're trying a cleo for the first time today. I was worried that it wouldnt' stick but it seems to have gone ok. It IS hard getting it off the inserter though..I thought for sure I was going to pull it up as I removed it.

we're starting on the cozmo at the end of the month and I took one look at the options other than the cleo and thought I just couldn't use them, I'm to chicken. The cleo has two different sizes so you can use different ones for bum or tum and other than the fact that they create a heap more land fill, I'm going to over look it because It's all so tidy. I think the school would also use one as they wouldn't have to really insert it. I have heard of them coming off with swimming but I'm just oing to add a little tape to them in summer. good luck with your decision. Choice is a wonderful thing.:D

We've had great luck with the Cleo and swimming. Carson takes swimming lessons and I have been really surprised at how well the Cleo has stayed on. It has never come off -- he's only in the water 1 hour at a time, though.

It stays on better than the Tenders did. I didn't think that would happen because we had to use unisolve to get the Tenders off, and we don't with the Cleo, so I thought the Cleo would come off in the water, but it doesn't.

My husband just switched to the cleo set a few months back. He likes it better, easier to use and throw away too. Safe for the kids.:o

Michele, what was it about the Cleo that was a nightmare for you? We're only a week into pumping, but have been using the Cleos on our 3 yr old. So far so good, but we've only done it about 3 times now. The Inset was our second choice. I'm just curious what problems people have had with Cleo....

Shealyn complains about it being 'sore' for about an hour after we change her site, but then we don't hear anything else about it.

We like the Cleos. We used to use the MM Quick-sets and Cleos are smaller and seem to stay on better. Plus I like that I don't have to stress out over losing the Quick-Serter as you get a new, fresh one each time. My DD LOVES that the Cleo inserter puts the needle in and out all at once. Fabulous!
