quick answer needed please: dexamethazone

we injected dexamethasone about 3 hours ago because of illness. doc said it's a kind of cortone and would raise bgs. what's your suggestion/experience about rasing basals? 150% would be okay or 200%?

WEll, Dex is a steroid so you should certainly see rasied BG but to be on the safe side I would start at 150% and then if needed go higher. You guys watch closely enough that you would probaly catch a problem soon.

thank you Allene. also found this thread (http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/showthread.php?t=7124&highlight=dexamethasone). this place just ROCKS. we had only one shot of dexamethasone. doc said it'll last for 24 hours and i'm not sure about it. we raised basals to 150% for the time being and might need to raise it even more. i read that we should be careful about when the medicine wears off and reduce the basals back to normal just in time. who long do YOU think it'll last in the body?

Not long....probably less than a day......according to drugs.com...
