ok as many of you know we have had major problems with charlzie bloodsugar's lately..... So here is how our weekend went.......Yeah does this make since.. 1.. i screwed up big time, but it ended up saving me.. lol.... ok remember saterday we could barely break 400, then i was able to and she went low... She cont to stay low all day sunday.... Allen and i even did a temp basal -10% for 4 hours.. She still went low.. So we tried -20% for 2 hours and She sky rocketted.. to 489.. .. ok so we bolused for that, had dinner and corrected.. Well here is when the mistake happened.. At 7:30 we gave the kids baths.. I always remove the pump.... Well at about 11:00 pm i relized I didnt connect her pump back.. I go into panic mode.. SO i wake her up, do a check for bloodsugar and ketones.............. blood sugar 116 and no ketones......... ok i got really lucky.. but i just look at it That basically i avoided a night time low for her and need to count my blessings..... I am still waiting for the nurse to call me back on what to do re the school issue and the lows.. but in the mean time i have lowered her basals from lunch and to about 2 pm down by almost 40% and increased her carb ratio too... since she is bottoming out at 35-40 bloodsugars every day at school... I already tried the moving in small increaments but she still was bottoming out.. So we will see what happens

by the way.. im mad at my self for screwing up.. glad i got lucky though

Chandra,

If it makes you feel any better, I just realized that I screwed up today too! As I was writing another post, I realized that I sent my son to his first day of school today WITHOUT HAVING GIVEN HIM A SHOT!! In 2 years, we have NEVER totally forgotten (always remembered at least by the end of the meal!) I suppose with the chaos of the first day of school (not to mention my bliss at having all 3 kids in school all day for the first time) it just completely slipped my mind! Nice impression I'm making on his new teacher!!

Hey Chandra, We all mess up sometimes. Don't feel bad. When the outcome is good I wonder if it really was a screw up or if someone was watching out for us.

Boo, it's not funny but it is. My kids go back to school next week. I always have mixed emotions with Ty but this year I have been referred to by him as the nag. So to me the bliss thing is funny. Good Luck!

God Bless! Tami

Chandra

Don't beat yourself up, we all screw up from time to time. The main thing was she was ok. We are all human...doing our best 24/7. Don't feel bad.

This'll hopefully make you smile:

I once sent Ben to school, only to realise that the school was closed!!!!!
It was a 'teachers training day'. Lol.

Regards
Jackie.

Yup. We all will make mistakes. And it's the recovery that helps.

I remember one day, post breakfast husband/wife D update:

Me: BG was xxxx, I gave lantus and x units of humalog.
She: Whups. So did I.

Double bolus, double lantus. He had ice cream and donuts all day long.
It's nice to be able to look at the pump and see the last bolus.

Thank you all.. for your kind words.. its just very frusterating that when im having such a HARD time keeping her blood sugars in a somewhat normal range.... that i screww up so badly.. it also goes to show you how bad of a problem im having if she was with out a pump for 3+ hours, and was at 116.... SHe should have been HIGH.

Cut youself some slack, I've been doing this for a while and every now and then I forget something, like not writing down when I changed his infusion site and not remembering which day its due, forgetting to bolus for food, assuming sombody else tested and they doing the same, bad math (that's the worst).

Take care.

Chandra,
We all make mistakes, don't beat yourself up. I forgot to "plug" Abby back in after a bath once, forgot Lantus. Acknowledge and move on is my motto.

Are you still waiting for a call back from this weekend? Call your doc and demand to speak to someone asap. Don't accept a call back. Tell them you will wait. Her bottoming out is just way to dangerous, and they need to step up to the plate and help.

Best of luck. We start school Wed. I can only imagine the numbers we'll be seeing for the next few days.

Hang in there!:)
