OT - So where's your computer?

Not to be nosy, but I often wonder where people are when they are visiting this forum.

Our computer is in our bedroom which is downstairs and is a bit of a sanctuary from the kids. There is a TV in here so I can watch it and type at the same time. It is right next to the bed, so late at night I can rotate the monitor around and check out the forum while lying on my side in bed. There are several computers in the shop at work (I'm a machinist), so I like to jump on during breaks.

We have an office upstairs with a computer but the kids more or less took over that room for their homework and other projects.

My guess is that many of you use laptops. Am I right?

WWWweeeeelllll ~ currently - I am at work!!! Shhhh, don't tell! At home, I keep my computer in the living room so that way I can discreetly 'monitor' my kids surging. We have otehr computers in the house (yes - I am geeky!) but, this is the only one with internet access!

Both of our computers are in the dining room. The husband might move his up to our bedroom soon when we get wireless cards and router. For now they're tethered together down here. :D The dining room is the hub of the house so it works out this way. The kids also have a pc in their room but they don't use it much because it has no internet. I build all of our pcs so it's really tempting to have even more than 3. :D

I'm currently at work also... SHHHH!! At home my computer is in the computer room.. I am wanting a lap top, but wanting isn't getting me anywhere just yet... lol .. :p

I normally use mine at work, and on the weekends I get on at home in the family room. We have 3 computers at home in our house.. I call it the Wifi cafe at home..lol

Well, my pc from hell (slow and stubborn) is in our office, across from the kids' room (they share it for now)...so when I put my kids to nap or sleep...I skip happily across to our office and bam...log on...:o I'm slightly addicted...

First I would like to say i am a geek.


We have one computer in the kids play room (limited internet access), one in the kitchen (laptop for recipes and cooking shows), and 2 in the living room (laptops, one for Mom and one for Dad). Wii in the living-room ,and an XBOX running XBMC as our media server.

Oh yeah, the file server is in the basement.

At work it's at my desk using Windows XP, at home, when I'm on the couch I use my PCLinuxOS laptop, when I'm downstairs I use my SUSE Linux 10.3 computer. If I'm at my wife's computer, I use her Windows Vista Computer, or I could be on my wife's Windows 2000 laptop. Also I find myself on Emma's PCLinuxOS desktop that's in her room. Am I missing one? PDA's?? I don't usually go to CWD on my PDA... Maybe I should start. :)

DH and DD have desktops, Mommy has the laptop:D Though it's older and slower than the others I love it!
Most often use at the diningroon/livingroom table, but I love that it goes where I go. Spoiled by the wireless;) and I know it!

We are down to only 2 computers at home right now. Our main computer with internet is in the dining room. Sarah has a comp in her room but no internet yet. I have almost enough saved up to get my laptop.

In the evenings.. I am either onthe laptop in living on the couch, or upstairs in the office.

I have a laptop that I take to the cottage for writing, but we don't have internet up there.

We have three in the office. Hers, mine and one for the 10 year old to play NeoPets and stuff on.

DD has an iMac in her room (that is a nice computer)

Boys have a PC and lap top in their room.

All have full internet access via wired network.

Oh - oldest has an new iPod Touch with wireless access. That cool.

I like the idea of Bugzy's file server and am having geek envy.

We're on a LAN. At prime times, we have daughter upstairs in her room on her laptop, Tom on the laptop in the TV room with his iTouch going as well as the Wii, me on this desktop in the "computer room" downstairs (close on to the powder room, backup fridge and laundry room), DH on the other desktop in here with his work laptop humming to the side.

So it's possible to have 7 going at once. We had another laptop but got rid of it when we learned the dog had no thumbs.

Our PC is in the kitchen because our kitchen & living room are pretty much 2 open rooms together. This way when the boys are on, I can keep an eye on what their doing while still respecting privacy. Joey has a pc in his room but no internet. Its mostly for game cheats he saved on notepad, music & games. I mostly use the laptop I splurged on a few months ago w/ some money we recieved. After we paid bills, I wanted something that just once I could say I splurged on this, I didnt need it, I just wanted it just for me lol. Plus its hard for me to sit at a desk for long because of pain and I can sit in a recliner w/ my feet up if I need to to work on my site, come on here or other sites I visit. I do try to make a point however to get off everyso often, when Im working on my site, to do housework, stretch, leg lifts ect. ( I can only excersise for short periods- working up to longer) And of course, the kids get thier time on 'mom's puter' too as a privelege cause its 'cooler' lol. What sucks is we have dial up on both so only one can be online at a time. :(

Well, my husband is a Network/Systems Admin and has worked with computers for most of his life, soooooo we have a lot of computers at home LOL. Most used are the two wireless Dell's in our livingroom...we can watch TV AND be online at the same time :rolleyes:. We also have a couple of machines in the office and lots and lots of computer parts there!!!!

My desktop is right behing my dining room table. I mostly use my laptop because I can sit on the couch and check things out. If I am out and about and have a lot of time I will use my phone to browse.

I've got 4 desk tops to deal with here. Ones in the living room, another in the bedroom and the both our boys have their own. It's a toss up between the living room and bedroom comp as far as browsing this site. The boys comps were wireless for a while but they eventually wanted theirs hard wired to the router instead. I said fine but if they wanted it, they had to crawl under the house to run the Cat5 cable and not me.

I'm surprised at the number of geeks on this forum.:) I'm one too. We have a wired and wireless lan with 3 desktops and a laptop. That is 2 more computers than people in the household.:eek:

When I am in the forum I am usually on a dual-boot Dell running Windows Media Center and Ubuntu Linux. An XBox-360 is also on the network. I don't use it but Brenden and Brensdad and the uncles use it and play on-line games with headsets so they can use voice chat while playing. The Uncles (Joey & Nathan) live in Dallas and Austin and Brenden thinks they are his toys.:)

I got the brainstorm I was going to put Kubuntu back on my pc to dual boot with Vista a couple weeks ago but changed my mind when the live CD decided not to work (alternate install works though). I did an entire clean install of Vista because I was dual booting with XP and when I tried deleting the XP partition Vista wouldn't boot. I popped in the Vista disk so it could fix itself and XP magically reappeared on the boot loader. /nerd lol

I am AMAZED at the number of computers some of you have. WOW!! We have one Dell with internet access in the living room for keeping an eye on the kids as well. Another older computer downstairs for games for them, etc.

We have one downstairs in the dining room and one upstairs in the playroom, we have a laptop also. I like the Dell in the Dining room.

When I am at work, I have about 30 Dells in 3 different places.....I am an elementary computer teacher and teach about 1000 kids in our 3 elementary school from 1-5th grade the beauty and wonder of computers!

God I remember in high school when computer were still so new and it was considered an elective! Now they have them in kindergarten. I also remember being at my best friend's house playing "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" on a black screen w/ all text & no graphics. My how far we've come!! :)

My computer is in my bedroom. We have 4 in our house- 3 desktop and a laptop. 1 each. Years ago we only had 1, then 2 but now we'd just fight if we didn't have 1 each! I guess we spend way too much time on the internet :eek:

we have a dell with dsl in the den where I do everything and my hubbie has a computer that he built also in the den, we just share a monitor.
my daughter has 1 or 2 things that she does on the computer but for the most part is not on more than once a day(her spelling work is on the computer) but I check often.
I despise the phone so try and use email for everything.
