My son takes Lantus at night, he takes humalog in the day. He doesn't fight the humalog too much, but always fights the lantus.. He says that it burns. Has anyone ever heard that lantus burns more than humalog? Also a quick question about the pumps, I have been doing research on them because at our last vist they said we would prolly be considering it soon. Everywhere that i read about the pumps says that the injection sights are painful. Is this true aswell??

Lantus does sting more because it has an acidic PH. As for pump sites, some infusion sets hurt worse than others. We use the sure-t's with the Medtronic 522. Elizabeth doesn't complain at all, and we don't even use numbing cream, it's like getting an injection.

Alot of people say Lantus does sting. There was a thread the other day with some tips to try to make it sting less.

As for the sites with the pump. My dd is 6, been pumping for 5 yrs and doesnt complain. Alot of the 90 degree sites arent much bigger then a syringe needle (Lanae, we need your picture reference here..lol) SOme of the angles sets have longer needles so they may be abit scary looking.

You can always use emla cream to numb it or there is a numbing spray sold at beauty supply stores that can be used too.

If the stinging is a major issue you may want to ask your endo about Levemir as an alternative. We are pumping now, but this came up when we were on Lantus also. good luck!

When our son was on mdi he said the Lantus hurt as well.We started using ice to numb the spot before giving the injection. He said that worked pretty well.
