I know we're supposed to keep insulin in the fridge, but I have an un-opened vial of novolog that I keep in our backpack in with syringes in case of emergency/pump failure. Is this going to be any good at all? It's been a few months, but I havn't cracked the seal on top yet. I don't plan on using it in his pump, but is it OK to keep in the bag for reserves?
I think it's only good unopened unrefrigerated for 30 days but I could be wrong so don't hold me to that.

I believe its only good for 30 days if its not refridg. also. You can always call the Endo's office to check or the pharmacy.

Another concern is what temperatures has it been exposed to? It can get quite hot in a car....
I'd also like to suggest getting a pen to keep in your backpack. You can toss out the cartridge every 30 days and put in a new one. They're designed not to be refrigerated and far more convenient for emergencies or pump failures.

Another idea is to keep syringes and draw insulin out of the reservoir if necessary. We have done that a few times...we also keep insulin pens around.
