We put the strip in the meter, then dip the stick only in the soda. If it gives a Low or low number you know its diet. If it gives you a High or higher number you no its not diet its regular.
We have done this several times, and it has saved us from many many mistakes that was made. It works for us.

That's really intresting!! We could have used that several times, but we have gotten lucky now pretty much everyone drinks diet around our house!! Thanks for sharing this with me.

we too test diet soda, or if the sign says its lemonade, but they insist that its really LITE lemonade.. I'll check it.. I haven't checked anything else but some drinks.. I typically use the straw suck some up in it.. hold my fingre over the top and then put a dap on the meter strip, if you put to much it gets crabby lol..

My husband and kids were bored during one dinner out and tested everything they could get their hands on...beer, gravey, soda, juice, ketchup...etc...
lol I didn't know you could do that. You learn something new every day...

i use the straw and plug it and when the meter reads ready to test blood you put soda in instead.. if its diet.. it will read error.. if its not diet it will read hi...
I have read here others test other things but i dont know what or why?
The reason i brought this up we had an unexplained HI yesterday due to taco bell and diet soda that was not diet...

I've tested diet/non diet soda with ketostix. Especially if we go out to eat. But I never put anything else in the meter. I'd be worried it would break something.

I have a spare meter and I think Kelton and I would find it fun to test everything in the kitchen :D This could turn out to be our Easter fun!
I have to use the spare meter or the Endo might have a heart attack when he downloads the meter information..It would seem bizarre to go from LO to HI in a matter of seconds :D

Wow. That's a great idea to use it to check the soda. I'm going to start doing that for sure.
There's no end to the things I learn on here!

Or, if you used the regular meter, your endo would wonder why there were 20 control tests in a row?:D

I used to think that too but apparently the brains are in the strip not the machine.

I just tried this with my " I don't think its Diet" Coke and my meter just gives an error, so some meters must just not work on something other than blood - I have an Ultra2
